Lighthouse Lab Services seeks a full-time Lead Laboratory Technologist for an established Toxicology Laboratory in Greenville, NC
Position Summary
The Lead Laboratory Technologist is responsible for day-to-day operations, under the supervision of the Laboratory Director, and provides technical, scientific guidance and support to the Laboratory Director by working with our internal Consulting and Lab Management teams.
The Lead Laboratory Technologist adheres to protocols and quality measures while performing sample preparation and operating laboratory instrumentation. The incumbent ensures that all duties are properly performed and applicable CLIA regulations are met. The incumbent also gives input and ensures compliance to laboratory workflow and process improvements.
Essential Functions & Basic Duties
- Appropriate test method selection.
- Adequate verification of test procedures performed and establishment of the laboratory's test performance characteristics, including the accuracy and precision of each test and test system.
- Enrollment of the laboratory in an HHS-approved proficiency testing (PT) program for the test performed.
- PT samples are tested in accordance with CLIA and state regulations.
- PT results are returned within the time frames established by the PT program.
- PT reports are reviewed by the appropriate staff.
- Corrective action plans are followed when PT results are found to be unacceptable or unsatisfactory.
- Quality assessment and quality control programs are established and maintained.
- Acceptable analytical test performance is established and maintained for each test system.
- Resolving technical problems and ensuring that remedial actions are taken and documented when significant deviations from the laboratory's established performance characteristics are identified, and patient test results are reported only when the system is functioning properly.
- Personnel have been appropriately trained and demonstrate competency prior to testing patient specimens.
- Policies and procedures are established for monitoring personnel competency in all phases of testing to ensure the ongoing competence of all individuals who perform testing.
- Remedial training or continuing education needs are identified and training provided.
- An approved procedure manual is available to all personnel.
- Oversees inventory management and ensuring supplies are on hand to meet the testing needs of the laboratory.
- Communication with Lighthouse Point-of-Contact.
- Reviewing QC logs and updates as necessary.
- Perform daily LCMS and EIA instrumentation operations
- Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
- Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
- Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
- Follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
- Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical supervisor, clinical consultant, or director.
- Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specification.
- Work to ensure processes are compliant with the lab's standard operating procedures as well as relevant laws, rules, and regulations applicable to the laboratory.
- Complete all administration duties.
- Complete mandatory training and professional development as required or requested.
- Ensure adherence to all State and Federal laws, guidelines and regulations including compliance with CLIA and CAP regulations.
- Maintain HIPAA requirements at all times.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures, Federal and State regulations and laws.
- Perform other duties as directed.
