What are the responsibilities and job description for the Housing Navigator position at LightHouse Social Service Centers?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Housing Navigator will assist families who are receiving a TANF grant with locating and applying for appropriate housing. The Housing Navigator will conduct initial and if necessary follow-up housing inspections and complete “rent reasonableness documentation”. The Housing Navigator will monitor the application process and make sure that all required documents are completed and forwarded to the prospective landlord. The Housing Navigator will also locate additional housing resources, develop working relationships with landlords, and educate the program staff on housing options available to the population. The Housing Navigator must enjoy working as a member of a team in a cooperative effort and be able to exercise creative and independent judgment to solve problems. The Housing Navigator is expected to perform her/his duties in alignment with the vision and values of LightHouse Social Service Centers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assists families in applying for appropriate housing.
2. Assists families in monitoring the application process.
3. Educates families and program staff on housing options available in the community.
4. Maintains a relationship with landlord and housing staff.
5. Complies with all policies and procedures.
6. Performs other related duties as requested.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
a. One (1) year experience working in the field of homeless services or related human services experience.
b. Knowledge and experience with homeless communities.
c. Knowledge of community resources and services.
d. Strong telephone skills.
e. Strong decision making skills and good judgment.
f. Ability to work independently.
g. Strong computer skills and organizational skills.
h. If recovering, a minimum of two years sobriety.
i. Valid driver’s license and insurable.
J. Experience with culturally diverse populations.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour
