This is a unique and exciting opportunity for a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments to collaborate in the design and implementation of services to support students who are blind / low vision through community activities, family engagement, enriched education, and activities focused on the Expanded Core Curriculum for children and youth ages preschool to young teens.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Bachelor’s degree in special education, counseling, therapeutic recreation or related field, or equivalent experience required. MA or certification in Visual Impairments, ACVREP, Orientation and Mobility highly desired.Minimum of 3 years of work experience within the blindness education profession preferred.Strong understanding of the needs of children and youth who are blind / low vision, the ECC, and resources to support children and families required.Strong understanding of Cerebral Visual Impairment, multiple assessment tools and strategies for students of diverse ages and abilities.Eager to work with diverse students of all ages and abilities.Ability to build strong partnerships with individuals and organizations.Warm and professional verbal / written communication and presentations.A high level of social-emotional intelligence, demonstrating patience and empathy.Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and respect.Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and priorities with creativity, collaboration, and initiative.Must be an effective user of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel. Salesforce or other database experience, and knowledge of Zoom or other web conferencing platforms.Have and maintain up-to-date First Aid and CPR certifications, to be paid for by LightHouse.Bilingual / bicultural English / Spanish is highly desired.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :
The TSVI, Youth and Family Services is responsible for designing and implementing activities, support, and resources that benefit children / youth who are blind, low vision, or have additional disabilities in collaboration with the Family Engagement Manager.
Design and implement playgroups and workshops focused on building skills and social relationships for children who are blind / low vision / with additional disabilities.Provide supplementary services to individual students and small groups outside of their school / LEA programming.Support LightHouse grant deliverables through intergenerational activities and mentoring activities.Conduct VI Assessments for transition of early intervention students to preschool in collaboration with Little Learners Early Childhood Blind and Low Vision Specialists.Support LightHouse’s growth in the areas of CVI Assessment and support.Establish and maintain effective partnerships with community organizations to offer inclusive activities to children and youth who are blind / low vision of diverse abilities.Engage families and youth in appropriate LightHouse events and activities.Research and maintain updated resources for families to address their needs for advocacy, support, access, and parent education.Design and seek resources to implement parent workshops and support groups specific to the needs of families raising children who are blind / low vision or who have additional developmental needs, including Cerebral Visual Impairment.Maintain timely entry of student and event data for service and grant reporting.Conduct parent surveys and focus groups to identify the needs of BVI youth and families, service gaps, and opportunities for program development.Participate in program planning and implementation of LightHouse’s strategic plan.Maintain student confidentiality.Ensure entry of all student service data into Salesforce and other relevant systems within 5 days of service date.Submit monthly reporting, billing, and reimbursements accurately and timely by the 5th business day of preceding month.Willingness to perform other related duties as assigned.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Ability to carry or transport 20lbs.Sit / Stand at a desk and perform computer-intensive work for long periods of time.Operate standard office equipment.Must be able to independently travel to all LightHouse physical locations and events as needed.WORKING CONDITIONS :
