- Minimum Education: Must have an Associate Degree in Nursing or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
- Minimum Experience: Minimum of 1 year working in geriatric nursing, including experience with medication administration, delivery systems and pharmacies.
- License, Certification, Registration: In addition must be licensed in good standing in Alaska as a Registered Nurse. CPR certification. Must obtain MDS certification within 90 days of start.
- Equipment/Tools: Office equipment (i.e. computer, telephone, fax machine, copy machine). Prior experience with the MDS data tool in a long term care environment is preferred.
Position Summary: The Minimum Data Set (MDS) Coordinator RN provides and plans the daily nursing activities and care as prescribed by the physician and in accordance with accepted standards of nurse practice and regulations. Promotes a positive physical and psychosocial environment for the residents living in the long term care facility.

Duties

- Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations related to MDS documentation and reporting.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
- Utilize Cerner or similar electronic health record systems for documentation and data management.
- Monitor patient outcomes and participate in quality improvement initiatives related to MDS processes.
- Provide education and training to staff regarding MDS assessments, documentation requirements, and utilization management practices.
- Stay updated on changes in Medicare regulations, DRG coding, and other relevant healthcare policies.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of physiology and anatomy as it relates to patient care.
- Experience working in a Level II Trauma Center is preferred.
- Familiarity with Medicare guidelines, DRG coding, and medical documentation standards.
- Proficiency in Cerner or similar electronic health record systems is highly desirable.
- Background in utilization management or health information management is beneficial.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills are essential for maintaining accurate records.
