Lighting Maintenance Inc
Harmans, MD Full Time
POSTED ON 3/8/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/8/2025

We are a well-established electrical contracting firm with 33 years in business, known for our stable business model and quality service. Our projects range from sports lighting for stadiums and fields to street & roadway lighting, to commercial and retail properties to traffic signal systems and government infrastructure. We pride ourselves on a collaborative team environment and a commitment to excellence in every project.

Job Overview:
We’re seeking an Experienced Electrical Estimator with strong technical expertise to join our team. In this role, you will lead detailed cost estimations for specialized projects including sports field lighting, roadway traffic signals, government RFPs/ITBs (Request for Proposals/Invitations to Bid), and general electrical service work. This position is perfect for a detail-oriented professional who can analyze complex project specifications while communicating effectively with clients and team members. If you have a passion for precision and enjoy working on diverse electrical projects, this is an exciting opportunity to advance your career in a stable, growth-oriented company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare Detailed Estimates: Review blueprints, specifications, and project documents (including government RFPs and ITBs) to calculate materials, labor, and equipment costs for sports lighting, traffic signal installations, and other electrical projects.
  • Quantity Take-Offs: Perform accurate take-offs for wiring, fixtures, panels, poles, and related components. Ensure no detail is missed in high-profile projects like stadium lighting or municipal traffic systems.
  • Bid & Proposal Management: Develop comprehensive bid proposals and RFP responses, meeting all technical requirements and deadlines. This includes writing clear scope-of-work summaries and ensuring compliance with government bid specifications.
  • Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination: Solicit and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors for specialized equipment (e.g., lighting poles, signal hardware). Collaborate with vendors to secure competitive pricing and confirm material availability.
  • Cost Analysis & Value Engineering: Analyze project costs and suggest value engineering options where appropriate, balancing quality and cost-effectiveness. Maintain an up-to-date cost database for materials and labor rates to streamline future estimates.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to clarify project needs and adjust estimates if project scopes change. Provide technical insights during project planning meetings and assist in project scheduling based on your estimates.
  • Site Visits & Inspections: Occasionally attend site visits or pre-bid meetings to gain first-hand understanding of project conditions (e.g., verifying existing electrical infrastructure for retrofit projects or new service work).
  • Industry Compliance: Ensure all estimates adhere to electrical codes, safety standards, and industry best practices. Account for permitting, inspections, and any special requirements specific to sports venues or traffic control systems.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience as an Electrical Estimator in the construction industry. Specific experience with sports lighting, and DOT infrastructure projects is highly preferred. Experience working on government contracts, RFPs, or ITBs is a strong plus.
  • Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of electrical systems, components, and installation practices. Ability to read and interpret electrical plans, one-line diagrams, and technical specifications in detail.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Construction Management, or related field is a plus. Relevant certifications (e.g. Certified Professional Estimator) or electrical licensing are advantageous.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient with estimating software and tools (such as Bluebeam, Accubid, or equivalent) and MS Office (Excel, Word). Comfortable using digital take-off tools and maintaining cost databases.
  • Detail-Oriented: Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in calculations. Able to identify discrepancies in plans or specs and ask the right questions before bidding.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to write clear, concise proposals and to explain estimates to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Time Management: Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously. Proven track record of delivering quality results under tight timelines.
  • Team Player: Self-motivated with a collaborative attitude. Willing to mentor junior estimators or share knowledge with the team. A problem-solver who takes initiative and ownership of their work.

What We Offer

  • Competitive Salary: We offer a highly competitive salary commensurate with experience and expertise. Your skills and knowledge are valued here.
  • Company Vehicle: A company vehicle (or vehicle allowance) is provided as part of the package, enabling you to easily travel to job sites, client meetings, and supplier visits.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Full benefits package including health insurance (medical, dental, vision), 401(k) retirement plan with company match, and life/disability insurance. We also offer paid vacation, holidays, and sick leave.
  • Stable, Supportive Environment: As a company with 33 years of success, we offer job stability and a consistent pipeline of projects. You’ll work with a knowledgeable team in an organization that understands the value of work-life balance and professional growth.
  • Professional Growth: Opportunities for ongoing training and development. Attend industry conferences, pursue further certifications, or expand your expertise in new electrical technologies (we’ll support you!).
  • Impactful Projects: Be a part of high-profile and meaningful projects – from lighting up sports complexes that bring communities together, to improving road safety with modern lighting & traffic signal systems. Your work will have visible results in the community.
