We are hiring a Photonics Layout & Design Intern to join our team. In this role, you will contribute to component and system photonics layout as well as photonics design and test. You will also interact with photonics architecture, design, and test teams to assist in the overall development of photonic systems, specifying, selecting, and qualifying the various components necessary.

About This Role
We are hiring a Photonics Layout & Design Intern to join our team. In this role, you will contribute to component and system photonics layout as well as photonics design and test. You will also interact with photonics architecture, design, and test teams to assist in the overall development of photonic systems, specifying, selecting, and qualifying the various components necessary.

Responsibilities
- Own photonics layout of the overall chip as well components
- Design high-performance photonics devices suitable for high-volume manufacturing
- Work with the photonics test team in defining requirements for device characterization, debug and validation
- Analyze characterization data to ensure the device/system meets the specifications
- Engage in problem solving and contributing with novel architectural ideas
- Pursuing M.S. or PhD in Photonics or a related field.
- Experience with code based GDS creation such as GDS Factory or similar
- Proficiency in layout, modeling and data analysis in Python
- Experience with large scale layout, testing and characterization of photonic devices
- Must have deep knowledge of photonic device physics and semiconductor lasers
- Demonstrated track record of design integrated silicon photonics components using Lumerical, Tidy3D or equivalent
- Ability to collaborate in cross-disciplinary team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrate strong problem solving skills in problems that do not have obvious solutions
- Can-do, positive attitude
- Ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders with strong and clear communication.
- Willing and able to learn quickly, self-starter with a “no task is too big or small” attitude.
- Experience with OptoCompiler
- Experience doing layout with foundry PDKs
- Experience with optical and electronic test equipment (e.g., optical spectrum analyzers, ).
- Strong project execution skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and meet project milestones.
