Farm Stand Worker

About our farm:

We are a mixed livestock farm based in Rutland, MA selling animal proteins including our own pasture-raised beef, pork, poultry, lamb, and eggs, as well as a large variety of other local pantry items, dairy, produce and much more!

We are seeking dependable and punctual team members with a strong work ethic to join our farm store staff in Rutland. Our store employees are responsible for ensuring a positive and memorable shopping experience for all customers and vendors. Candidates must be accurate and efficient when processing all customer transactions and should have excellent communication skills to effectively engage with others.

Candidates must be outgoing, welcoming, and knowledgeable about our products, who will provide a memorable first impression with outstanding customer service skills. Flexibility, problem solving skills and excellent written and verbal communications skills are a must. Candidates must be able to work both individually and as a member of a cohesive team to achieve common goals.

Available shifts: Wednesday 10-6, Fridays 10-7, and Sundays 9-5 (plus opening/closing additional time as needed). Availability to fill in for other shifts as needed when staff take time off is helpful, too. Our hours change seasonally when our bar and kitchen open from May-October. There are days when the store will be open until 9:00 pm.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

Interacting with customers to provide information and assistance in response to inquiries about products and services.

Maintaining a clean, organized, and well-stocked warm and inviting store environment.

Performing regular cleaning activities including, but not limited to, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning glass doors, counter surfaces, emptying all interior and exterior trash cans, rotating and straightening merchandise and cleaning beverage and food service equipment and cleaning restrooms when necessary.

Replenishing products and supplies to ensure product availability and occasionally picking up or dropping off products at our packing house location in Holden.

Accurately and efficiently completing sales transactions and maintaining proper accountability at the cash register. At the end of shift staff are accountable for closing out their register, documenting amounts for the cash drops, and ensuring a proper register setup for the next shift.

Maintaining an awareness of all product knowledge information, merchandise promotions, and advertisements.

Assisting in other parts of the business as needed including scooping ice cream, assisting customers with farm site visits, setting up and cleaning outdoor activity materials and equipment, and other duties as required.

Requirements:

• Valid driver’s license and clean driving history
• Pleasant personality and strong customer service skills
• Ability to move merchandise and customer orders, weighing up to 50 lbs. throughout the store.
• Ability to occasionally lift or reach merchandise overhead and carry items up and down stairs.
• Ability to frequently stand, kneel, twist, crouch, squat, bend, stoop, and climb ladders. Sitting is not permitted while working at our cash register, this role requires standing throughout the duration of your shift.
• Ability to move throughout the store for an entire shift.
• Ability to operate the store point of sale systems and other store equipment.
• Ability to read, write, and count accurately to complete all documentation.
• Ability to utilize strong written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with team members.
• Ability to work as a team but also independently in certain tasks.

BONUS SKILLS:

-Prior knowledge of cooking and preparing meats

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
