Job Purpose

The Advisor, Clinical Practice Development, supports new and ongoing efforts to identify, develop, and strategically implement best practices and innovative programming , blending working knowledge of clinical approaches/interventions, Hawaiian cultural foundations, applied research, trauma-informed approaches, and effective kamaliʻi & ʻohana engagement to improve outcomes for Hawaiian kamaliʻi. These duties include providing training, coaching, and consultation for all regional practitioners toward achievement of organizational performance goals, driving positive change through critical thinking, and innovating with a growth mindset . The Advisor also provides specific support on clinical elements of practice, such as completing clinical psychosocial assessments, therapeutic trauma-informed interventions, goal development, and measuring progress of collaboratively created plans between the caseworker and kamaliʻi . The Advisor works closely with LT leadership, Youth Programming teams, and other LT departments to support implementation of LTʻs diverse program offerings across all LT program locations in a manner that ensures innovation, best practice application, and cultural resonance in a manner that reflects the mission, vision, and values of the Trust.

Essential Responsibilities

  • In partnership with LT program leadership, program support departments, and program locations, identifies, designs, and implements clinical practice development initiatives that best serve kamaliʻi and ʻohana within regions of the state that reflect the mission, vision, and values of the Trust.
    • Develop and implement training focused on both clinical and non-clinical methods and interventions for social work and youth program teams to support effective practice with kamaliʻi within an interdisciplinary model of service delivery.
    • Ensure that all training is based on assessment of kamaliʻi needs, child and positive youth developmental principles, best practices in trauma-informed care, and alignment with Hawaiian cultural approaches.
    • Work with LT program leadership, program support departments, and program locations to conduct and examine data from case/program reviews and needs assessments to identify areas for improvement to inform training content and requirements.
    • Create and continually update training materials, including frameworks, manuals, guides, presentations, and online resources.
    • Facilitate training workshops and group/one-on-one training sessions on a variety of relevant clinical/cultural content inclusive of interdisciplinary focus. Utilize various live, hybrid, and asynchronous training methods such as role-playing, case studies, consultations, and interactive e-learning modules.
    • Provide ongoing support and mentorship to program teammates and teams to ensure the application of best practices.
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs using methods such as pre- and post-training assessments, feedback surveys, observation, and performance metrics. Analyze training data to identify trends and areas for improvement. Maintain accurate records of training activities and documentation of overall progress, effectiveness, and course adjustments.
    • Stay current with developments in clinical/non-clinical social work practice, positive youth development, and Hawaiian cultural approaches and integrate new knowledge into training programs on an ongoing basis.
    • Collaborate across LT departments to ensure training programs align with organizational strategic goals, standards, frameworks, policies, and procedures. Ensure that all LT departments receive training in core areas (e.g., confidentiality, professional boundaries), in addition to focusing on program-facing capacity building.
    • Collaborate with external trainers and subject matter experts to bring additional expertise and perspectives to training programs. Procure specialized training as applicable for areas outside expertise of position or internal LT resources.
    • Provide coaching to LT program locations and teams through facilitation of clinical case and group consultations. Document learning outcomes for future training purposes.
    • Participate in development and implementation of quality assurance reviews and continuous quality improvement (CQI) processes that utilize qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis to improve delivery of services , promoting alignment/informing of organizational policy, procedure, and practice.
    • Work across all LT teams and programs to develop and inform practice implementation standards, frameworks, and manuals that align with and also inform program/organizational policies and procedures.
    • Work across LT departments to cross-communicate and where necessary, co-develop and implement comprehensive training for teams to build internal capacity for effective practice, increase knowledge, and quality assurance.
    • Contributes to LT’s overall success through collaboration, communication, and knowledge-sharing with all teammates to identify emerging issues, improve team and organizational results , and foster strategic decision-making.


  • Kīpuka Services and program support and technical assistance as needed :
    • Consultation services, such as practice supports or program design that reflect LT policy and documentation requirements.
    • Provide support and staffing/coverage for kīpuka and/or service center programming where applicable.

Qualifications

Preferred education and experience:

  • Master’s degree in social work, psychology, education or other related human service field; or a Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, education or other related human service field and at least 5 years of relevant experience
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in provision of casework/case management serving vulnerable and at-risk populations.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in planning, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of youth programming serving vulnerable and at-risk populations .
  • At least 5 years of experience managing complex projects or programs and experience in application development and new learning technologies.

    • Knowledge of theories of biological, psychological and social development, diversity and cultural competency, interpersonal relationships, family and group dynamics, impacts of trauma , and the effects of the physical, social and cultural environment.
  • Demonstrate d expertise in all phases of skill development in practice, program, and quality assurance methodology to include but not limited to:
    • A bility to design training and instructional materials and ability to train, coach and consult on group-work programming design and implementation, cultural practice methods, and evaluation.
    • A bility to quickly acquire necessary level of knowledge to support practice and program training needs across LT.


    • Facilitative and mentorship skills to lead, train, and evaluate teammates. Ability to plan and support the development of others in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of NASW Code of Ethics and applicable state and federal laws regarding the provision of clinical social work.
  • Program and project management skills (intermediate to advanced):
    • Ability to effectively oversee a number of deliverables and manage them to timely completion; to identify priorities aligned with organizational needs when faced with competing and sometimes emergent demands for resources.
  • Strong organizational, analytical , interpersonal, facilitation, presentation, strategic and creative problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Strong oral, written, and visual communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain flexible in adapting to change and learning new systems and processes. Tolerance for ambiguity, emergence, and divergent work
  • Demonstrated ability and success in collaborative efforts, ability to lead and work as member of a multidisciplinary team, and understand organizational culture, systems, and importance of community.

  • Proficiency with MS Office, technical proficiency with project management software is desirable.
  • Ability to work flexible hours when necessary, including nights and weekends, to meet key development, design, and implementation deadlines.
  • Ability to work in environments that are in-office, virtual, and/or field-based.
