Lilian G. Tsang, Chapter 13 Trustee for the Modesto Division of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of California. The Chapter 13 Trustee has a standing appointment from the United States Trustee to administer Chapter 13 cases and maintain the integrity of the bankruptcy system. Our office administers over 1200 active cases, which include evaluating the financial affairs of debtors, making recommendations to the court regarding the confirmation of the debtor’s repayment plan, and administering the court-approved plan by collecting payments from debtors and disbursing funds to creditors. Our office is conveniently located at the Carpenter Road Exit of CA-99 and free parking is available.
About the Job
The Chapter 13 Trustee’s Office for the Modesto Division is seeking a highly motivated staff attorney interested in a career in the growing bankruptcy field. The ideal candidate has 0-5 years of legal experience, pays attention to details, and has excellent communication, legal research, and legal writing skills. This is a contract role to start and will transition to a full-time permanent position after completion of trial period.
The role is for an in-house Staff Attorney located in Modesto, CA, with flexibility for a hybrid work schedule, working at least 3-4 days in the office. A permanent position will be offered to the right candidate with a generous benefits package. The candidate will represent the Trustee and provide legal support to office staff and paralegals. The candidate will represent the Trustee at Section 341 meetings of creditors and court hearings, engage in motion practice and oral arguments, assist with drafting various legal documents, and conduct legal research in bankruptcy law, cases, and rules. This position will involve substantial interaction with judges, creditors, attorneys, and debtors.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in California. Alternatively, the individual is waiting for CA Bar Exam results.
- Strong research, writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Highly motivated, willingness to learn, and takes initiative.
