Position Overview:
Lilienthal Gallery is a small and tight knit team, as such we all play many roles in the process of running a gallery. As the Communications and Marketing Director, you will be responsible for developing and executing marketing strategies to increase the visibility and reach of Lilienthal Gallery’s exhibitions, programs, and events. You will play a key role in communicating the gallery’s mission and vision to a broad audience, ensuring that our artists and their works receive the attention they deserve. This role requires creativity, strategic thinking, and the ability to manage multiple projects and communications channels effectively.
You will also staff the gallery while it is open to the public. Responsibilities will include engaging with guests, providing detailed information about the art on display, assisting with sales of fine art pieces, and assisting with special events.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet and engage with gallery visitors, offering insightful information about the artists and artworks.
- Generating sales by providing knowledgeable guidance to potential buyers on pieces of art, as well as expanding the gallery’s reach beyond in person connections to online ones via platforms like Artsy
- Manage the gallery’s digital presence, including website, social media platforms, and email newsletters, ensuring content is fresh, engaging, and aligned with the gallery.
- Build and maintain relationships with media outlets to secure press coverage and increase awareness.
- Oversee the production of promotional materials, such as flyers, brochures, invitations, and digital assets.
- Cultivate a strong online community through interactive and engaging content across platforms.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience in communications, marketing, or public relations, preferably in the arts, cultural institutions, or luxury sectors.
- Strong understanding of social media platforms, digital marketing tools, and content management systems.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Creative thinker with a strategic mindset, capable of identifying and seizing new marketing opportunities.
- Passion for contemporary art and a deep appreciation for global artistic expressions.
- Knowledge of the Knoxville arts community and an established network in the arts industry is a plus
- Sales experience in high end markets is a plus
Hours:
Approximately 20 hours per week, including weekends (every other weekend), and occasional late shifts for special events like First Fridays (5-9 PM)
Regular gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 12-6 PM. Schedule is flexible and can be discussed upon interview
Compensation:
$20/hour with opportunities for advancement
