Required Qualifications
- A Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Current unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Hawaii.
- Two years of experience as a RN.
- Must have, as a minimum, one (1) year of experience working as an RN in a skilled nursing facility.
- Knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to long-term care.
- Extensive knowledge of nursing skills sets (i.e. managing PICC lines, tube-feeding procedures, medication administration, IV’s, assessment skills, documentation, care planning, wound management, etc.) with the ability to demonstrate, teach, and evaluate competency of these nursing skill set to others.
- Extensive knowledge of current standards of practice and the rules, regulations, and laws related to the long-term care industry. Poses the ability to teach this knowledge to others.
- Current CPR certification.
- TB clearance in accordance with the State of Hawaii, Department of Health, TB requirements.

- Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinates, plans, and maintains the facility’s mandatory training program to meet requirements of local, State, and Federal regulations.
- Develop and administer training sessions, materials, and in-service training for the facility staff.
- Plans, schedules, conducts and oversees orientation programs for all personnel.
- Works closely with the Nursing Department leadership to develop in-services and training materials, schedules and implements training sessions, and evaluates competencies and knowledge of material.
- Provide direct hands-on training classes to nursing department staff in related skills sets to provide nursing treatments.
- Plan, coordinate, and hold skills fairs for nursing aides and licensed nurses, and facility staff as applicable.
- Reviews educational content to ensure the information reflects current standards of practice and facility policies and procedures. Develop or revise content as needed.
- Develop, maintain, and audits training records to ensure staff completion and compliance with mandatory training.
- Collaborates with department managers to develop competencies required for meeting residents’ needs. Assists with evaluating competencies, depending on the knowledge-based, technical, or behavioral nature of the competencies.
- Provides ad-hoc in-services as needed or required.
- Maintains all training records, reports, instructional materials, of education and training programs.
- Attends in-services and training sessions to gain knowledge and skills to educate facility staff.
- Participates in the facility’s QAPI program.
- Participates in the development, review, and revisions of the facility assessment.
- Additional tasks as assigned.
- Audits performance based on provided trainings.
