Lili’uokalani Center (LC):
Informed by a deep understanding of the adolescent experience and grounded in Hawaiian culture, the new LC will provide Hawaiian youth with opportunities to connect to peers and mentors, receive supportive services, and discover pathways to passion, purpose, and prosperity. LC will be LT’s signature youth development hub for culture, creativity, technology, and play, and will serve as a resource center where youth can connect to vital supports and a vibrant community. LC will be a safe space located in urban Honolulu where youth are inspired to pursue their dreams, including exploring pathways in the arts, sports, technology, and entrepreneurship while receiving wraparound support to help them reach their goals and become thriving adults. A primary function of LC will be to provide a space for young people to play, to learn, to find connection and inspiration, and to experience joy.
Currently under construction, LC is set to open in Spring of 2025.
Job Purpose
Nā Leo o Kamaka’eha is an advisory council created to provide ʻYouth Voice’ for Lili’uokalani Trust’s (LT) upcoming Lili’uokalani Center (LC). The council’s kūleana (responsibility) includes gathering input from the community and their own lived experiences to help shape programming at LT and, more specifically, at LC. Nā Leo o Kamaka’eha strives to learn from and support kūpuna and the community. As the leaders of tomorrow, Nā Leo o Kamaka’eha aims to provide peer-to-peer mentorship across the paeʻāina through the development of statewide councils for each island.
Essential Responsibilities
Provide input into programmatic and special design, drawing from council members’ lived experiences and perspectives.
Work collaboratively with community youth to gather their ideas and input to help shape programming.
Work collaboratively with other LT teammates, departments, and external partners to strengthen the impact of Nā Leo o Kamakaʻeha and other LT youth leadership programs.
Conduct extensive research for project proposals for youth spaces and programs.
Coordinate weekly meetings to ensure accountability and measure the progress of projects.
Spearhead pilot programs aimed at engaging youth and foster integration between teams spread across the islands.
Work closely with LT Teammates across kīpuka to develop and implement region-specific programming.
In collaboration with LC Leadership, identify and cultivate relevant community partnerships.
In collaboration with Pathways Coordinators and other teammates, identify local and national subject experts and best-in-class programs to learn from and partner with.
Collaborate with state-wide teammates to create and facilitate opportunities for capacity building and learning for teammates, community members, and youth.
Other duties:
As deemed appropriate and necessary, support other programs within LT.
Provide mentorship to Nā Leo o Kamakaʻeha Statewide Council.
Facilitate weekly group meetings and conversations.
Contribute to the Trust’s success by accepting new assignments, helping council members, learning new skills, and supporting the organization in achieving strategic goals.
Qualifications (preferred)
Candidates with life experiences that are similar and relatable to those of the kamaliʻi we serve, are ideal.
Previous participation in an LT Leadership, Kīpuka, or Statewide program.
Must be active in the community and demonstrate alignment with LT’s values.
Experience advocating for change.

Travel Requirements:

While travel may not always be a need, the ability to travel when required remains a crucial aspect of this position.
