What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN - Medical Park-Admin position at Lima Memorial Health System?
Functioning within the Health Systems mission, values, objectives, and policies and procedures the Staff Registered Nurse gives nursing care to patients seen in The Cancer Institute/Infusion area. This includes: accessing, planning, implementing, providing oncology biopsy consults, assist with oncology patient navigation, education on radiologic and pathologic findings for oncology patients; vascular port access and peripheral blood draws ability to start peripheral IV’s for IV infusions; cross trained to assess radiation oncology patients at the direction of radiation oncologist; making judgments based upon scientific knowledge and clinical skills. Ability to administer chemotherapy. Ability to administer non-oncology infusions/injections. Ability to work with insurance companies and other LMHS departments related to billing/prior authorization issues. Works with specialty pharmacies for patient treatments. Performs telephone triage when patients call in with potential side effects from treatment. This job is measured with age specific criteria.
Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and hold a valid un-restricted RN license with the Ohio Board of Nursing. Bachelor of Science (BSN) preferred.
Licensure/Certification: BLS required. ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification required, or must obtain within 6 months of hire. Knowledge of basic genetic counseling preferred. Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification preferred. Must hold valid driver’s license to travel to other potential sites to administer chemotherapy.
Experience: One year Vascular port access and peripheral blood draws required; Proficient at IV starts required. Previous experience in working Radiation Oncology patient setting, and/or outpatient infusion center setting preferred. One year Medical Oncology outpatient experience in a physician office or outpatient setting preferred. Previous experience in working with insurance companies and billing/prior authorization process preferred.
Skills: Must show competency and ability in the practice of nursing. Must have knowledge of correct body mechanics. Necessary traits include verbal, clerical, teaching, and numerical abilities as well as manual dexterity. Demonstrates effective time management. Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with other health professionals, patients and the public. Must be able to multi-task and handle stressful situations.
