What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN - Procedural Care Unit (PCU) position at Lima Memorial Health System?
Functioning within the Health System’s mission, vision, values, policies and procedures, the Registered Nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for the care of patients undergoing invasive procedures in the Cath Lab, EP lab and Interventional Radiology department. The PCU RN responsibilities include patient preparation for procedures as well as post procedure recovery, including but not limited to, assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care using age specific criteria and safely discharging patients. The PCU unit is a fast paced unit with the ability to care for pre-procedure and post procedure observation patients including overnight observation. Must demonstrate flexibility with work schedule changes and be “on call” per department requirements, which include being continuously available to be on-site within sixty (60) minutes.
Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred. Basic and Intermediate Cardiac Classes required.
Licensure/Certification: Current valid, unrestricted RN license for the State of Ohio. Current BLS and ACLS required.
Experience: 1-2 years RECENT telemetry nursing experience required. 1-2 years RECENT outpatient procedural based nursing experience strongly preferred. Experience with specialized high risk cardiac, vascular, and interventional procedural patients (i.e. pre/post left and right heart catheterization, permanent pacemakers/AICD’s, peripheral angiograms, arterial sheath management and removal and patients receiving conscious sedation) is also strongly preferred. Must be able to function within a fast paced unit that cares for patients during multiple phases of the procedure process - admission, post recovery, observation and discharge.
Skills: Must have excellent customer service and communication skills and the documented ability to exhibit patience and tact and interact effectively with all constituents including physicians, patients and associates. Must also be team oriented and demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively, collaboratively, and efficiently in a fast-paced stressful environment. Required skills include basic computer skills and the ability to start IV’s.
