What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgical Technician or LPN - Obstetrics position at Lima Memorial Health System?
Functioning within the Health System’s mission, values, objectives, procedures and policies, the Surgical Technician functions as a partner to the Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse and physicians to provide quality patient care. The Surgical Technician is responsible to assist in the planning and implementation of care for the surgical patient. The Surgical Technician functions as both the primary and the secondary scrub for cesarean deliveries and sterilizations and other cases as requested. Judgments are made based upon clinical skills. Once training is completed, Surg Tech’s will be expected to be part of the on-call rotation in the Family Birth Center. On-call availability is essential within a 30 minute response time. On-call frequency will be determined in accordance with departmental guidelines.
Education: Qualified candidate must meet at least one of the following criteria: Must be a graduate of a surgical technology program. Must be a graduate of an LPN program and hold a valid unrestricted LPN license. Will accept an RN student who has completed 2nd quarter or 1st semester clinicals in a nursing associate’s degree or diploma program or is a second-year student in a BSN program.
Licensure/Certification: Current BLS required. Certified Surgical Technician and Certified car seat instructor preferred.
Experience: Previous experience as a Patient Care Tech or Unit Secretary is preferred. One year of experience in an O.R./OB setting preferred
Skills: Must have excellent “customer service” skills, including the ability to exhibit patience and tact with all constituents including physicians, patients and associates. Must demonstrate flexibility with work schedule changes, be cooperative and collaborative, and have the documented ability to work with speed and proficiency while under stress. Must have basic computer skills and EMR (electronic medical records) experience. Must be able to print and write legibly and accurately.
