Summary: The Kitchen Porter plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen environment. This position is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the kitchen by providing essential support to the culinary team through cleaning, dishwashing, and general maintenance tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Dishwashing and Cleaning:
- Operate and maintain dishwashing equipment, ensuring all dishes, cutlery, glassware, and cookware are cleaned to a high standard.
- Hand-wash delicate items and large pots/pans as required.
- Maintain cleanliness of all kitchen surfaces, including countertops, floors, and storage areas.
- Empty and clean trash and recycling bins regularly.
- Sweep and mop kitchen floors, ensuring they are free from spills and debris.
Kitchen Support:
- Assist with basic food preparation tasks as directed by the chefs (e.g., peeling vegetables, portioning ingredients).
- Receive and store deliveries of food and supplies, ensuring proper rotation and labeling.
- Maintain organization of storage areas, ensuring items are easily accessible.
- Assist in the preparation of workstations for service.
- Ensure adequate supply of clean dishes, cutlery, and glassware during service.
Equipment Maintenance:
- Clean and maintain kitchen equipment, including ovens, grills, and refrigerators.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to the appropriate personnel.
- Ensure that cleaning supplies and equipment are stored safely and correctly.
Health and Safety:
- Adhere to all food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment, following all safety protocols.
- Report any safety hazards or accidents to the supervisor immediately.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety standards.
Teamwork:
- Work effectively as part of a team, assisting colleagues as needed.
- Communicate effectively with kitchen staff and management.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:
High school diploma or GED required. Knowledge of basic food safety and hygiene practices is desirable. Previous experience in a kitchen environment is preferred but not always required.

Physical Demands:
