Security guard job description
The security guard periodically patrols buildings and grounds. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent and experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Rely on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Perform a variety of tasks. The ideal candidate will work under general supervision; typically reports to a security lead and HR manager. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
Security Guard job requirements and responsibilities:
- Secure premises and personnel by patrolling property; monitoring surveillance equipment; inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points; permitting entry and allows exit to trailers
- Prevent losses and damage by reporting irregularities, informing violators of policy and procedures, restraining trespassers
- Control traffic in the yard by directing inbound and outbound drivers
- Use of scale system for inbound and outbound loads
- Audit outbound loads vs paperwork and make sure information corresponds and trailers are secured
- Keep good communication with the company’s shipping & receiving and logistics teams
- Validate inbound loads seals vs paperwork and assigning seals to outbound loads
- Complete reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities; interviewing witnesses; obtaining signatures
- Maintain environment safe and secured by monitoring and setting building and equipment
- Maintain organization's stability and reputation by complying with legal requirements
- Contribute to security team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
- Ensure the security, safety, and well-being of all personnel, visitors, and the premises
- Provide excellent customer service
- Adhere to all company service and operating standards
- Respond to emergency situations to provide necessary assistance to employees and customers when needed
- Protect the company's assets relative to theft, assault, fire, and other safety issues
- Follow procedures for various initiatives, including fire prevention, patrolling premises regularly, traffic control, and accident investigations
- Report suspicious activity, criminal behavior, and security breaches to security lead and HR manager
- Ensure operation of security equipment and surveillance cameras by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; evaluating new equipment and techniques
- Remain in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
- 1 year or more experience
