What are the responsibilities and job description for the Applied Scientist - Physics-informed ML position at Liminal?
About Liminal Insights
Liminal's mission is to accelerate the clean energy transition by improving the cost, quality, and reliability of battery manufacturing. We do this by providing customers with better analytics and insights during production. Our breakthrough EchoStat® platform uses ultrasound and machine learning technology to supply customers with the information needed to accelerate production ramp-up, improve productivity and reliability, and detect critical defects early. Liminal has active product evaluations with major cell manufacturers and EV OEMs.
Our Culture and Values
As an applied scientist at Liminal you will join a small, nimble team of engineers and scientists creating cutting-edge battery inspection equipment. You will be an integral part of researching new modeling techniques to better understand how material structure impacts ultrasound measurements and how these measurements can be used to predict battery performance.
On a typical day, you may: design and implement algorithms for extracting material property information from ultrasonic signals; research and build simulations of battery materials to understand how defects or noise might impact measurements; integrate physical constraints into machine learning models; work with customer data to correlate ultrasound sensor output to battery performance data; or communicate your work to a diverse set of stakeholders.
You value careful listening, thoughtful questions, and data-driven decisions. You are comfortable gathering and distilling information to drive the direction of open-ended projects. The ideal candidate will approach this work with a mixture of intellectual curiosity, thoughtful creativity, and methodical rigor. The ideal candidate also gets satisfaction from seeing people do great things with their work, has a learning mindset, and is excited to solve problems that have a positive impact on the world's clean energy future.
