Job Summary: The Behavioral Health Manager (BHM) is responsible for providing behavioral health consultation, guidance and support organizationally. The BHM is involved in the referral/assessment/admission process and program development, providing behavioral health expertise, guidance, and behavioral support plan development. A part of the Leadership Team, the Behavioral Health Manager works in close collaboration with Program Supervisors, Operations Managers, and Quality Assurance Manager to successfully support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and behavioral health concerns. The Behavioral Health Manager manages the Behavioral Health Specialist(s) and works closely with external stakeholders and funders to coordinate and provide for person-centered supports, promoting quality delivery in the least restrictive manner within community settings. The Behavioral Health Manager serves to lead behavioral support plan training, company training classes, and leads/organizes company data tracking and reporting.
Qualifications
- Be at least 21 years of age
- A Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or other behavioral-health-related field required. A Master's Degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience providing professional, behavioral-health services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and/or mental health concerns
- A valid driver's license and a driving record which allows the candidate to be covered by a company insurance policy
- Exceptional analytical skills and the ability to reason and evaluate, exercise good judgment, and effectively solve problems
- Excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills, and the ability to work with a wide array of individuals
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Ability to work autonomously, with minimal direction
- Maintain a strong knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, including those related to health, safety, and care for individuals with disabilities and behavioral health needs
- Maintain a respectful relationship with clients and employees of residential facilities
- Knowledge of technology sufficient to use company computer hardware and software, web-based technology, and handheld devices
- While performing the duties of this job, the Behavioral Health Manager is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The Behavioral Health Manager is frequently required to stand, talk, and hear.
Job Duties
- Behavioral Health Services: The Behavioral Health Manager leads, coordinates, and facilitates the necessary communication, involvement, direction, and collaboration to effectively manage and set forth behavioral health supportive services. The BHM provides supervision of the Behavioral Health Specialist(s) (BHS) to carry out duties and responsibilities related to behavioral health services. The BHM provides recommendations to the Leadership Team and Operations specific to behavioral health management, services, and interventions.
- Referrals, Assessment, and Placement: The Behavioral Health Manager works with counties and managed care organizations to determine the client needs and recommend services and programs for new clients. The Behavioral Health Manager assesses clients and works with the Admissions Specialist, Operations Manager, and the Program Supervisor to determine if the client is the right fit for an opening. The Behavioral Health Manager works closely with Operations and the admissions team on the new development of programs and services, as well as changes in internal placements.
- Support Plan Development, Monitoring, and Assessment: The Behavioral Health Manager assists in the development of Individual Service Plans and develops/revises Behavior Support Plans. The Behavioral Health Manager promotes interdisciplinary team feedback, satisfaction, and overall management of service delivery. The Behavioral Health Manager develops, modifies, and tracks the effectiveness of behavior and other support plans, including positive replacement behaviors, community integration skills, and restrictive measures when appropriate, and through data tracking. The Behavioral Health Manager promotes person-centered and individualized support.
- Compliance and Accreditation: The Behavioral Health Manager maintains knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations to ensure compliance. The Behavioral Health Manager works with the Quality Assurance Manager on The Council on Quality and Leadership (CQL) accreditation activities. The Behavioral Health Manager maintains knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and ensures the safety of all residents and employees.
- Collaborate: The Behavioral Health Manager will collaborate with other departments such as Operations, Quality Assurance, Human Resources, and Finance to ensure the effective operation of services.
- Staff Training: The Behavioral Health Manager provides training and support to employees to improve their ability to provide effective care to clients, including onboarding, annual updates, and training within the programs, especially when a new client begins services or if there is a significant change to a support plan.
- Communication: The Behavioral Health Manager works with the management team to promote, develop, and maintain effective communication processes. The Behavioral Health Manager acts as a professional representative of the company to clients' guardians, care teams, family members, physicians, and other professionals; government agencies; managed care organizations; and other stakeholders.
- Organizational Participation: The Behavioral Health Manager is familiar with the mission, vision, and values of the company and adheres to the support philosophy to guide behavioral supports.
- Documentation: The Behavioral Health Manager is aware of the requirements for documentation and is able to manage and lead these requirements efficiently. The Behavioral Health Manager provides review/consultation of general event reports and through the critical incident reporting/review process.
- On-Call Rotation: Behavioral Health Managers are responsible for serving in the weekend on-call rotation and serving to provide coverage and backup to Program Supervisor coverage needs, if applicable.
- Professionalism: The Behavioral Health Manager pursues knowledge and information necessary to perform job duties, follows ethical practices, maintains confidentiality, and builds professional relationships with supervisors and employees.
