Job Summary
Provides technical and regulatory expertise to supervise the daily EHS functions by ensuring the EHS programs reduce risks, eliminate hazards and accidents and are performed in accordance with all external regulatory requirements and internal EHS management guidelines.
Responsibility
- Supervise the development of EHS programs, policies, procedures and training modules to meet regulatory requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement through training employees on EHS programs, policies and procedures.
- Develop safety/environmental communications (e.g. postings, employee meeting notices, minutes, awareness).
- Compile data for various Federal and State environmental and safety reports (e.g. annual hazardous waste, annual disposal fee, SARA 311-312-313 and TIER II reports, OSHA log, Air Quality).
- Maintain working knowledge of federal, state and local environmental, health and safety regulations (EHS).
- Complete EHS audits according to the facility schedule and ensure appropriate corrective actions are developed and implemented in a timely manner.
- Oversee the development and implementation of an environmental management system (i.e. ISO 14001).
- Lead the facility wide recycling and waste disposal programs.
- Facilitate safety/environmental teams when needed
- Coordinate the accumulation of hazardous and non-hazardous waste for off-site disposal in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate Environmental related matters associated with site operations including air, water, waste and chemical/materials managements issues (includes Safety Data Sheets).
- Monitor hazardous/non-hazardous materials and waste storage, identification and manifesting for proper disposal.
- Lead incident investigations and ensure appropriate root causes are identified and track corrective actions through implementation.
- Audit compliance tracking programs and record keeping systems.
- Prepare mandatory safety alerts for near misses and work-related injuries.
- Provide new hire orientation support for regulatory related topics.
- Understand and comply with ISO 140001, ISO 50001, ISO 45000 and TS 16949 requirements.
- Interface professionally with company associates, customers, vendors, contractors, government officials and the public in all areas of environmental, health and safety.
- Assist with leading the Emergency Response Team, First Aid Team and Spill Response Team.
- Assist with worker’s compensation.
- Other duties as it relates to this position.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in safety, environmental science, industrial hygiene or related field preferred.
- Certified Safety Profession (CSP) preferred.
- Five years of EHS experience preferred.
- Proven knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and state of North Carolina Regulations.
- Leadership abilities to promote a positive safety culture.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
- Proficient in Microsoft software package.
- Experience with regulatory compliance.
- Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills.
- High-energy individual who is goal-oriented and results-driven
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams.
- Proven self-starter: takes the initiative to identify and drive change.
- Change in priorities is the norm in this team and the role holder must be comfortable working in a fast- paced environment.
- Demonstrate ability to prioritize conflicting demands to meet all compliance deadlines.
- HAZWOPER training preferred.
- Hands-on experience implementing ISO 14001 processes and requirements through certification preferred.
- RCRA Hazardous Waste Certification, preferred.
- DOT Hazardous Materials Certification, preferred.
- Board of Certified Safety Professional Certified, preferred.
