Job Description
Job Title: Supplier Quality Engineer
Job Summary
Able to carry out Supplier Quality Engineer responsibilities with minimal direction and supervision. Work involves functioning as a technical liaison between McLaren and its suppliers. Work is of a technical nature, using independent judgement within the limits of general practices and standards. The focus will be on prototype materials and involve all facets of supplier quality, including supplier assessments, recommendations, tracking, follow up, handling supplier nonconformities, supplier PPAP etc. The focus will be to ensure the on-time delivery of prototype products that meet all design requirements (dimensional, functional etc.). Other assignments may be given at the Quality Manager’s discretion. Extensive travel is required.
Responsibility
To provide a means of communications directly with the customer in order to develop and supply a component which meets or exceeds customer requirements.
Perform Supplier Assessments (current and potential new suppliers) on the basis of; Commodity technical capability, risk assessment, process control, sensitivity to timing and pre-production milestones, appropriate use of technology, and engineering capability.
Monitor planning and production of prototypes to ensure timeliness to project milestones; includes internal reviews with Purchasing and Engineering, engagement with supplier APQP, measurement strategy, tooling follow up, production and delivery.
Assist Engineering & suppliers in the development of prototype control plans and associated documentation.
Manager supplier nonconformities using the Corrective Action process.
Facilitate problem solving techniques using industry standard methodologies.
Cascade McLaren and Customer specific requirements to supplier to ensure comprehension and compliance.
Educate and/or train suppliers on best practices.
Compile supplier data needed to create Supplier Scorecards.
Preparation of reports for Quality Assurance
Academic/Educational Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in engineering, manufacturing, quality or other related discipline or equivalent experience is required (product engineering preferred).
Required Skills/Experience
Minimum 2-year SQE or similar experience in the automotive industry.
Knowledge of and experience with AIAG Core Tools, (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC).
Write quality assurance reports that describe manufacturing problems, corrective actions taken and preventative measures needed. Proposals are usually written for non-technical audiences
Ability to make presentations to teams to effectively communicate supplier information.
Read operating and quality assurance reports to understand technical and operational information about facilities, processes and equipment.
Experience in drawing interpretations and GD&T.
Familiarization with gauging, testing & calibration.
Lead and co-ordinate project teams which include other engineers, technologists, suppliers etc.
Proficient with MS Office.
Familiar with industry standards (ISO, TS, AIAG, VDA etc.), familiarity with CQI-19 preferred.
Attend formal professional development seminars and conferences as needed.
Conduct self-directed studies by reading journals and trade publications. Must be aware of new technologies and advances in the engineering field.
Experience with gears, tooling, manufacturing processes, powertrain components & systems preferred.
Metallurgy experience helpful.
ASQ membership and CQE certification preferred.
