Role Overview: The University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) and Lincoln Center's Education Department are pleased to announce the 2025-2026 William R. Kenan, Jr. Performing Arts Fellowship at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. This fellowship seeks to support fellows in their transition from a conservatory training program to the NYC professional artistic community and to the work of our Education department. At Lincoln Center, the successful candidate will be engaged in the following areas: arts education administration, teaching artistry, supporting Lincoln Center Education Initiatives, network building, and opportunities to develop their artistry. Candidates should have demonstrated commitment, curiosity, and be conversant in the pillars of LCEs work: de-colonizing arts canons, de-gendering arts pedagogy, Access, and Inclusion.

Lincoln Center's Education department is recruiting for a cohort of 4 Fellows who are graduates of UNCSA’s undergraduate or graduate programs in the Schools of Dance, Drama, and Music. Classes of 2025, 2024, and 2023 are eligible to apply. For those students currently on campus, interviews will take place in person at the UNCSA campus in Winston-Salem, NC March 26, 2025. Applicants are encouraged to engage in an experiential workshop with Lincoln Center Education staff modeling effective teaching artist practice based in LCEs approach to teaching and learning. Those who are not on campus may request an interview in-person at Lincoln Center or virtually on Zoom.

The Kenan Fellowship is based in New York City, runs from July 7, 2025 through June 30, 2026 and a 29-hour per week employment commitment. A one-time reimbursement relocation stipend of $1000 will be offered. Vacation/Hiatus times will be as follows: 2-weeks off at the end of August, 1.5 weeks off Winter Holiday, and all other institutional holidays. Please note vacation/hiatus weeks are unpaid. What you’ll get to do here:

Teaching Artistry

  • Be trained in LCEs Inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning
  • Learn about education departments within arts organizations
  • Have opportunities to practice teaching artistry in on-campus activations
  • Apprentice with LCPA constituent organizations in their education and outreach programming
  • Apprentice with LCE teaching artists in the Access Ambassadors program
  • Support Big Umbrella Festival, which centers audiences with autism and other developmental disabilities by sharing unique approaches to sensory-based, interactive, and intimate artistic experiences to meet audiences exactly as they are.


Networking

  • Develop an understanding of the mission, priorities, and organizational structure of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and its constituent organizations
  • Build a community of artistic and civic practice with their peers and the LCPA community
  • Facilitated introductions to education and programming leadership at NYC arts organizations
  • Mentor-facilitated networking opportunities


Artistry

  • Conceive and propose an artistic project
  • Engage collaborators to perform, develop materials and creative assets
  • Interact with production and technical to realize project
  • Manage and lead a rehearsal and production process
  • Create a marketing and outreach strategy to advance work


Application:Applications will open on January 20, 2025. All applications must be received by Friday, March 12, 2025. Interviews will be scheduled for March 26 – 28 on UNCSA Campus. Applicants will be notified of their status the week of April 9, 2025.
