Position Summary: The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintenance and improvements to Lincoln Children’s Zoo grounds, equipment, and facilities.
Essential Job Functions:
- Inspects and services train equipment and tracks on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. Keep all necessary records according to city and state requirements.
- Inspects and repairs auto mechanical equipment such as the train, automobiles, club car electric carts, and grounds equipment, on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
- Constructs and maintains animal exhibits and holding facilities as well as public facilities.
- Performs facility maintenance such as minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, roof repair, window and door repair and lock repair.
- Follows a preventive maintenance schedule to maintain HVAC and water pump systems.
- Operates equipment such as skid loaders, small excavators, power tools, shop stationary tools, welding equipment and zoo owned vehicles.
- Keep records for the maintenance dept. including service, fuel and equipment logs.
- Orders and picks up supplies and materials.
- Assists with the set up and operation of Zoo special events.
- Conducts daily and weekly walk through inspections for the zoo grounds and facilities to maintain proper function and a suitable presentation.
- All other duties as assigned.
Preferred Talents
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with little supervision.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of basic computer operations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with auto mechanics, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, mechanical systems, and welding.
- 2-4 years hands on general maintenance experience.
- Valid Nebraska Driver’s License and proof of insurability.
Physical Requirements
Position will be required to lift heavy objects and must be able to lift a minimum of 60 lbs. on a regular basis. Primarily outdoor work – may be exposed to some outdoor elements and/or hazards.
Working Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to indoor/outdoor conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
