Permanent / full-time / 12-months / 8 hours per day / benefit eligible

Salary:  FLSA:  Non-Exempt

Grade 0202 ($4,085.20 - $6,513.72) State Salary Schedule (plus local supplement)

Qualifications and Requirements:

• High School Diploma
• Must have NC school bus mechanic experience
• Technical background as it relates to vehicle operations and maintenance
• Proficient in the use of the Internet, Microsoft Office & Google Workspace  
• BSIP experience preferred
• Strong positive communication with an attention to customer services

Physical Requirements:

Must be physically able to operate various equipment and machinery, including service trucks, buses, transportation support vehicles, forklifts, etc., and different types of mechanics' equipment; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform medium physical work.  Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, reach and climb to perform work.  The employee must lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds and heavier with the proper equipment.  Physical demand requirements are for medium to heavy work.

Duties:

• Management of shop mechanic staff
• Monitors and assigns work to be completed on a daily/weekly basis by mechanics
• Preforms preventative maintenance and 30-day inspections on school buses, activity buses, and county operated vehicles
• Asisst Inventory Manager with parts needs
• Adjusts work schedules of  mechanic staff when needed to ensure productivity
• Serves as a liaison between Transportation Coordinator and shop mechanics
• Responds to bus breakdowns or accidents when needed
• Communicate with Principals and Assistant Principals as needed regarding bus repairs or out of services vehicles
• Aid with the management of the activity bus fleet
• Assign monthly on call schedule for mechanic staff
• Work with NCDPI consultant with annual state inspection
• Assist Inventory Manager with warrentied parts.
• Communicates with contract vendors regarding repair needs
• Other duties as assigned
