Grade 63T ($2923.14 - $4880.14), plus local supplement
The salary for this position is based upon the successful applicant’s years of service in the NC State Retirement System in the same or similar position. Experience outside of this system is not recognized for pay purposes. For current Lincoln County School employees, this position will be paid according to the current Lincoln County Schools’ pay scale.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED
Two years’ experience in vehicle maintenance or two years technical training in the automotive/diesel field, with emphasis on school bus transportation preferred.
Must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License with P and S endorsements
Ability to acquire skill in the performance of increasingly complex duties relating to the repair and maintenance of automotive equipment
Mental aptitude to execute proper paperwork associated with the state maintenance program, including basic understanding of computer technology
Must be able to follow written and oral instructions
Must be able to perform very heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects
Responsibilities
Diagnosing mechanical repair needs for school buses with emphasis on heavy duty diesel chassis and components
Reparations of basic operations of steering systems, transmissions, differentials, fuel delivery systems, electrical components, and electronic management systems for engines and transmissions
Respond to road breakdowns and make necessary repairs to have bus returned to service in a timely manner
Perform 30-day inspections on all assigned buses, as required by DPI
Perform required preventative maintenance on assigned buses, as required by DPI
Maintain records of all work completed, including time and accurate charging of parts and supplies
Other duties as assigned
