Salary: FLSA: Non-Exempt
$5,124.25 to $8,502.65 per month ($61,491 to $102,031 per year), plus local supplement
The salary for this position is based upon the successful applicant’s years of service in the NC State Retirement System in the same or similar position. Experience outside of this system is not recognized for pay purposes. For current Lincoln County School employees, this position will be paid according to the current Lincoln County Schools’ pay scale.
Qualifications/Requirements/Duties
- Four-year Degree, Masters Preferred, in related field of study; work experience in public education and transportation.
- Valid driver’s license and driving record that qualifies employee to obtain and maintain a valid NCCDL Class B with S and P endorsement.
- Conforms with all state laws and regulations regarding school transportation.
- Maintains safety standards in conformance with state and insurance regulations and develops a program of preventive safety.
- Recruits, trains, and supervises all transportation personnel and makes recommendations on their employment, transfer, promotion, and release.
- Works with Chief Operations Officer to evaluate road conditions during times of inclement weather.
- Develops and administers a transportation program to meet all requirements of the daily instructional program and extracurricular activities.
- Works with TIMS Data Manger to establish bus routes for all public schools in the district.
- Prepares and updates bus schedules for all schools in the district.
- Attends appropriate committee and staff meetings.
- Develops and monitors transportation budget.
- Authorizes purchases in accordance with budgetary limitations and district rules.
- Approves and submits transportation service invoices to accounting department.
- Maintains all district-owned equipment and develops plans for preventive maintenance.
- Completes and submits insurance reports for vehicle accidents.
- Submits all reports required by state authorities.
- Takes an active role in solving discipline problems occurring on school buses.
- Acts as liaison with parents for complaints and special requests.
- Develops recommendations for future equipment and personnel needs based on a survey of resident students, distances, and grade levels.
- Evaluates all transportation staff employees on work performance and areas of improvement.
- Develops recommendations for future transportation needs based on an annual survey of resident students.
- Communicates with the NC Department of Transportation on roads, bridges, signs, etc.
- Coordination of safety programs and safety instruction for bus riders.
- Management of preventative maintenance program for all buses.
- Manages the operation of the drug-alcohol testing program for all district CDL drivers.
- Completes annual NCCDL driver record checks required by Federal Motor Carrier.
- Manage and monitor transportation of the Exceptional Children’s Program, work closely with Exceptional Children’s Director, school administration, and teachers.
- Manage and monitor 30-day inspection program and required preventative maintenance program.
- Assist local emergency management officials on issues related to transportation during emergency situations.
- Manage and monitor athletic and field trip travel.
- Assist in the management and monitoring of the Driver Education Program offered to students by Lincoln County Schools.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision once the job is learned.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to read, write and keep records.
- Ability to perform simple calculations.
- Must be able to perform very heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects
