Job Summary
The role of the Prosecutors Office is to conduct criminal prosecutions on behalf of the State, or people. The goal of this office is to pursue justice with honesty, vigilance, and determination to the best of our ability. We strive to protect the citizens in our community by protecting the innocent and convicting those that are guilty of committing crimes in this county while respecting the constitutional and legal rights of all persons, including suspects and defendants. Legal Assistants provide support to our Prosecutors by assisting with a multitude of tasks regarding criminal proceedings. The specifics of these tasks vary depending on the type of case.
Principal Accountabilities
This class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills.
Applicants must be prepared to demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
Prepares and E-files legal documents as requested by the attorney
Responds to emails and voicemails in a timely manner
Send complete discoveries to defense attorneys
Updates attorneys calendar with scheduled jury trials, bench trials, preliminary hearings, probation violation hearings, and other court dates
Fields phone calls from law enforcement and defense attorneys
Issues subpoenas requested from the attorney in a timely manner
Prepares materials for trial proceedings such as documents, jury instructions, and evidence
Updates files with case events from court E-files, documents received, phone notes, etc.
Must respect the confidentiality of the office.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Exceptional organizational skills
Strong attention to detail to ensure the accuracy of documents.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
Proficiency in using office software and tools, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Ability to prioritize tasks in a high-demand environment.
Dedication to upholding the highest standards of integrity and ethics.
Experience & Education
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and office experience (preferred).
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
