Position Details:
- Full-time (36 hours)
- Sunday - Saturday with rotating weekends
- Day/Evening Shift
Education Required:
- Associate’s degree in biology, chemistry, medical technology or physical science, or possess a degree that meets coursework and laboratory requirements.
License, Certification and/or Registration:
- State of Tennessee license as a Medical Laboratory Technician
- National Certification (ASCP, AMT)
Experience:
- Experience as generalist or in designated discipline strongly preferred.
Additional Skills/Abilities:
- Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly.
- Must be able to maintain absolute confidentiality in the handling of patient information.
- Absolute integrity and accuracy in the identification and reporting of number and names.
- Must have ability to make decisions concerning resources, technical problems, or other needs of the department with minimal direction.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Performs the specified patient and proficiency tests without errors.
- Individual is authorized to perform specimen processing, test performance, and result reporting without supervision for all tests/areas designated by training checklists.
- Recognizes when problems exist and refers problems to appropriate person.
- Reports and documents critical values according to established protocol.
- Verifies the accurate identification and acceptability of specimens.
- Reports STAT results within established protocol with a 90 - 95% compliance rate.
- Performs and documents routine quality control and preventative maintenance.
- Insures that all parameters are within stated control limits or takes action as necessary.
- Troubleshoots, corrects, and documents problems related to specimen testing.
- Required action taken when necessary to troubleshoot and correct a problem.
- Participates in achieving budgetary goals of the laboratory by using supplies, instruments, etc., in a cost effective manner.
- Resolves issues/concerns utilizing problem solving skills while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Demonstrates knowledge and support of the organizations mission, vision and values.
- Speaks positively about the organization, team members and services.
- Completes all required training and competencies by due dates.
- Sets examples of professionalism regarding uniform and appearance policy to increase customer satisfaction.
- Promotes an environment of healing and employee health and well-being by ensuring consistent application of the tobacco free workplace policy.
- Performs phlebotomy as needed.
