REQUIREMENTS

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: |
This position requires constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination, hearing; intermittent repetitive motions with the wrists, hands and fingers, sitting, walking, talking, and keyboarding. The position requires frequent lifting, bending, stooping, pulling, speaking, turning, grasping and carrying. |
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: |
Proficiency with vocal and piano. Must exhibit leadership, organization, public relations and business skills. Demonstrated ability to follow Board policy. |
CERTIFICATION
This position requires a valid South Dakota teaching certification with either the Secondary Music Education or K-12 Vocal Music Education endorsement.

Interested in becoming a contract teacher but don't hold a traditional teaching degree?
The South Dakota Department of Education offers an Alternative Certification program! Individuals will take 15-credits plus praxis exams while they perform their duties as a contract teacher for a South Dakota school district. Alternative Certification is available for most positions 5th grade through high school. Candidates must possess a minimum of a bachelor's degree, unless pursuing a CTE Instructor position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES
- Assists in the preparation of two major concerts per choral group each year, up to 30 ensemble performances. Participates in choral festival, competitions and region contests.
- Prepares students for participation in choral festival, competitions and region contests.
- Assists in the preparation of students for participation in homecoming and booster club activities.
- Assists in the preparation of students for auditions, rehearsals and performances of All State Honors Choir and Junior Honors Choir.
- Assists in the maintenance of the building choral music library.
- Rehearses choral sectionals, combined choruses and group instruction.
- Assists in choir robe inventory including name/address/phone/parent and/or guardian of user.
- Biannually assists in the preparation of a music theater production (accompanist, solo/chorus coach or choreographer) with the theater and orchestra departments.
- Assists in the collection and processing of data for the awards program.
- Assists in the selection and purchase of vocal ensemble costumes.
- Organizes and directs chorus and ensemble retreats.
- Works with the other members of the department to coordinate all activities of the choral department.
- Participates in the preparation and presentation of a Middle School Choral Festival on a three year rotation.
- Coordinates rehearsal/performance room usage with the other music directors and the Fine Arts Department Chair.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Starting at $52,233 to $58,823 per year, based on experience Extra Duy/Extra Pay

Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm
