Position Overview:  The position of Dean of Students serves as an assistant to the principal of the assigned school. This position assists the principal in the day-to-day affairs of the school.  The primary duties and responsibilities focus on a variety of student management responsibilities specifically assigned to assist in the overall supervision of students. Other administrative needs and processes may also be assigned.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Directly supervises students as delegated.
  2. Manage student supervision issues and enforce school behavioral expectations.
  3. Maintain a program of effective student discipline which promotes consistency among the staff and provides support for the staff expectations.
  4. Communicate the expectations and limits of school behavior to students, staff, and parents
  5. Assist in the planning, developing and implementing of individual student behavior plans.
  6. Confer appropriate consequences for behavior including detention, in school suspension, and out of school suspension
  7. Assist in developing programs to promote positive student behavior as well as intervention strategies.
  8. Assist staff and parents in developing student behavior.
  9. Organize and maintain a system for student attendance procedures working directly with the school attendance secretary on a daily basis to monitor attendance, tardy, truancies, and early dismissals.
  10. Works as the Test Coordinator.
  11. Other duties as assigned

Other Job Functions:

  1. Maintains a high degree of visibility throughout the school day.
  2. Assists in the overall communication efforts to staff, students, parents, and patrons as requested.
  3. Assists with the management of student scheduling
  4. Assists in the development and implementation of appropriate drug and alcohol intervention and interdiction strategies
  5. Serves on committees and fulfills such other assignments as directed by the principal.
  6. Assists with school security issues as needed such as school dances, games, extra-curricular activities.
  7. Set and carry out goals each year.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of:

 

  1. Current laws, rules, policies, methods and procedures related to school management.
  2. Educational curriculum concepts and instructional techniques.
  3. Learning theory and human psychology
  4. Management team concepts.
  5. Effective communication techniques including problem solving and conflict resolution

Ability to:

  1. Provide direction to others and make independent judgments.
  2. Work with parents and students on chronic attendance issues.
  3. Assume responsibility of principal in his/her absence.
  4. Serve as a resource to staff in dealing with classroom management issues.
  5. Maintain regular attendance
  6. Maintain confidentiality

Experience:

 

  1. Minimum of three years of successful teaching or related experience with increasing levels of responsibilities in school. Prefer working towards current Oregon Administrator's License

 License:

 

  1. Current Oregon license with appropriate endorsement in area of assignment
  2. Current ODL

Physical Requirements:

 

In an eight-hour day, employee may

  1. Stand/Walk 5-6 Hours
  2. Drive 1-2 Hours
  3. Sit 3-4 Hours
  4. Stoop/Squat/Bend 1-2 Hours
  5. Lift/Carry 1-2 Hours      Up to a weight of     50 lbs
  6. Climb Stairs Occasionally
  7. Use hands for repetitive motions Frequently
  8. Use feet for repetitive movements Frequently
