What are the responsibilities and job description for the Area Educator – PJCC - Family, Community and Consumer Science position at Lincoln University of Missouri?
PURPOSE:
This position will work in human, family, consumer, and community sciences and will focus on impactful, research based educational programming that meets the assessed needs of low-income, limited resource senior citizens ages 55 .
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Planning, designing, implementing, teaching and evaluating innovative programs that demonstrate measurable impact.
- Engaging and collaborating with communities, private entities, social service and commercial organizations and local, county, state and federal governments to deliver cutting-edge programs that address pyscho-social and economic needs of senior citizens and families living in Missouri
communities. - Utilizing research-based information, the Area Educator will offer educational experiences from a wide array of topics in the areas of human, family, consumer, and community sciences to include, but not limited to focusing on making healthy choices, embracing life as one ages, promoting healthy homes, families and communities, human nutrition and foods, family resource management, human development and family relations, health, safety and wellness, and housing and environment.
- Utilizing research-based information, creating and producing two engaging fact sheets and a newsletter designed to reach an audience aged 55 , written at an eighth-grade or below reading level during each evaluation period.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage program budget and the budget of any extramural funds secured.
- Solicit and secure extramural funding in the amount of $500 - $5,000 during each evaluation period, to include gifts and donations; may include grant proposal writing.
- May supervise volunteers, students and program participants.
- May require working on weekends and evenings.
- May require traveling around the region and occasional travel around and outside of the state of Missouri.
- Other duties, as assigned by Cooperative Extension Administrators.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in family sciences, human development, social work, consumer sciences, sociology, psychology, or a closely related field.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience working with the target audience
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics.
Required:
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Computer proficiency to include Microsoft Office - Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to work as part of a larger team.
Preferred:
- Ability to read, speak and understand Spanish.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
- Ability to lift, carry and put away parcels, and equipment.
- Normal physical mobility, which includes movement from place to place.
- Normal physical agility, which includes the ability to maneuver body while in place.
- Normal physical strength to handle routine office equipment.
- Normal endurance.
