Purpose:

The Assistant Professor of Weed Science is expected to develop a high-impact, nationally recognized integrated weed management (IWM) research and extension program to address the critical or emergent issues of weed control across a wide range of field agriculture/specialty crops and environments in Missouri. The ideal candidate will be able to contribute positively to the academic success of the Department of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences by teaching both undergraduate and graduate level courses in their field of expertise. The successful candidate for this position is also expected to work closely with Lincoln University farm employees, extension educators, farmers, ranchers, and industry partners. This is a 12-month, non-tenure track, and full benefit eligible faculty position with 75:25 split appointment between research and extension responsibilities.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Conduct innovative field/laboratory research on several IWM and ecological weed management tactics for various Missouri environments and field agricultural crops including a range of specialty crops.
  • Write grant proposals for extramural and competitive funding to support IWM research/extension programs.
  • Publish research findings in impactful peer-reviewed journals and Extension publications.
  • Recruit and supervise graduate students.
  • Collaborate with faculty within the University and other institutions and contribute to relevant professional societies.
  • Teach both graduate and undergraduate level courses in the selected candidate's field of expertise.
  • Provide department, college, and university service or any other duty as assigned.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Any other duties as assigned by the faculty member's department, college, and/or the University.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree in Weed Science, Plant Ecology, Agronomy, Crop Science, or a closely related field is required.
  • Applicants must have demonstrated ability to conduct IWM research, publish research results in scholarly peer-reviewed journals and extension publications, and secure extramural funding through grant proposals.
  • Post-doctoral research experience in the area of IWM is preferred.
  • Background in experimental design, data management, and statistics are essential.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:

  • In addition, experience with regenerative organic no-till farming and crop production, weed and fertility management in organic agriculture with potential to improve soil, environmental, and farm economic outcomes are highly desirable.
  • Interpersonal, effective oral and written communication skills, willingness and ability to work in a team-oriented environment with a diverse group of faculty and student population are essential for this position.
  • Experience teaching/mentoring at the college/university level is desirable.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in cold and hot environmental conditions.

Salary : $65,000 - $70,000
