Job summary

At Maple Lodge, we believe that everyone within our service should be enabled to live their best life. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to regain or learn new skills that facilitate a person to move forward in their mental health recovery.

Maple Lodge is a purpose built 15 bed rehabilitation unit within the Boston area for people with enduring mental health problems and complex needs.

We support people to recover to their optimum following a period of mental ill health, we support individuals to improve their quality of life. We work with people to manage their long-term mental health conditions to enable them to live well in their communities.

You will have the opportunity to participate and maintain high quality care within the ward environment to work alongside service users to aid in their recovery and transition back to independence.

We provide intervention for both men and women with severe and enduring mental ill-health in an open environment within the community to support their ongoing recovery and social integration / inclusion needs.

Must have a manual driving licence for the wards pool car.

Main duties of the job

Under the supervision of a registered nurse participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of high-quality care within a ward environment, through involvement in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.

Job responsibilities

To work within the policies, protocols and clinical procedures of Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Trust and to promote competent working practice within an integrated multi-disciplinary team. To liaise with the nurses and carry out assigned duties as a member of the multi- disciplinary mental health team. To be prepared to work on own initiative as necessary and report to the Nurses. Promote equality for all patients and understand their health needs. Demonstrate an awareness of service user and carer perspectives on the provision of treatment and continuing care. Participate regularly in clinical supervision sessions. Liaise with representatives from associated voluntary and statutory organisations and facilitate good communication processes. Attend in-service training and other study / refresher days to meet individual, statutory and service needs. Participate in performance reviews. To work with service users to promote independence, maximising daily living skills. Assist in maintaining general and specific patient observations under the supervision of registered nursing staff. Facilitate and participate in recreational and physical activities in the provision of health and social care to service users. Demonstrate an understanding of the responsibilities in relation to patients property and valuables, respecting cultural values. Always act in a manner as to promote and safeguard the interests and well-being of patients. Actively promote a responsible caring attitude at all times, treating all patients with dignity and respect. Always act in a manner that ensures no patient is the subject of any form of abuse. To report any incident which does not comply with Trust policy regarding incident reporting. Participate in the escorting of patients as per the Unit procedures. Accompany patients and participate, as needed, in recreational activities. Maintain good order and cleanliness on the Unit

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Cavendish Care Certificate or willingness to work towards resourced by LPFT
  • NVQ Level 2 in Care or equivalent
  • NVQ level 3 in Promoting Independence or equivalent or working towards achievement.

Desirable

  • Certificate in Community Mental Health ECDL
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Previous relevant experience working with people with mental health problems at a HCSW grade or equivalent within a health and social care setting.
  • Desirable

  • Voluntary or working capacity with mental health service or equivalent
  • Skills and Competences

    Essential

  • Effective communication with service user, other members of the team and outside agencies.
  • IT skills.
  • Skills related to Physical healthcare interventions such as urine analysis, phlebotomy, TPR and BP etc, recording findings and informing supervising nurse of results.
