Terms of Contract: 10 months, full-time, benefit eligible

Monthly Salary: Teacher State Salary Schedule (plus local supplement)
FLSA: EXEMPT
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina teaching license in appropriate licensure area.
Goal:
To develop in each pupil an interest in and the ability for creative expression in visual terms, using skills and techniques of artistic expression appropriate to the pupil’s interests and abilities; to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of art.
Duties:

- Teach knowledge and skills in art, including crafts, drawing, painting, lettering, design, commercial art, art history, and three-dimensional art, following the course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities
- Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district
- Provide instruction by which pupils develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art
- Demonstrate techniques in activities such as drawing, painting, and modeling, using standard and teacher-prepared instructional aids
- Develop instructional plans and organize class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time
- Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive studio environment
- Instruct pupils in proper care and use of tools and equipment
- Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection
- Evaluate each pupil’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepare progress reports
- Select and requisition books, instructional materials, tools, instructional aids, and maintain required inventory records
- Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit pupils’ work for the school and the community
- May sponsor exhibits from outside the school
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities
- Maintain an auditable record of pupil attendance and make daily reports of pupils absent each period
- Assign citizenship and scholarship marks
- Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress
- Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school or on a district level
- Collaborate with colleagues in the Fine Arts department to design sets and props for a variety of theater productions
- Must be able to perform heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of forces frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects
