Motion Designer

Summary:

We are seeking a talented Motion Designer with a background in visual effects (VFX) to join our team and contribute to the creation of animated graphics and visual effects for the Edits tool. Edits is a cutting-edge, stand-alone video editing app offering enhanced creative tools with expanded features, options, and controls. Our Design Studio drives the design and production of Edits; creative tool libraries, including filters, fonts, text effects, animations, transitions, and video effects.

In this role, you will work closely with a team of motion designers, engineers, and creative coders, collaborating to refine designs and ensure seamless translation into code. You will join a dynamic and skilled team of creative professionals and have the exciting opportunity to help shape the future of Edits.

Role Responsibilities:

• Design and produce text effects (quantity TBD), video transitions (approx. 30–50), and video effects (approx. 30) under the guidance of the Creative Director or Art Director.
• Collaborate with Creative Coders to refine designs using internal prototyping tools and assist with QA during product integration. Create documentation and handoff materials for engineers.
• Work within the technical constraints of the product, which will be communicated during onboarding.
• Partner with Tech Artists to translate designs into internal prototyping tools.
• Build out an extensive creative inventory, including filters, effects, and transitions.
• Develop documentation as required.
• Produce other deliverables, including video renders, After Effects files, and comprehensive documentation.

Performance Measurement: Performance will be evaluated based on deliverables, including:

• Video renders
• After Effects files (AE files)
• Figma decks

Must-Have Skills:

• 3–5 years of experience in designing and producing animated graphics and visual effects for real-time products and experiences.
• Demonstrated expertise in collaborating with technical artists or creative coders to translate designs into shaders and post-processing effects.
• A strong portfolio showcasing motion graphics and visual effects design.
• Proficiency in Adobe After Effects and Figma.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

• Familiarity with Origami prototyping and 3D VFX software.
• Experience with advanced VFX tools.
• Background in filmmaking, editing, or short-form video production.
• Experience with Origami and 3D VFX software, as well as knowledge of video LUTs (look-up tables), is an added advantage but not required.

Soft Skills:

• Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work seamlessly as part of a creative team.
• A team player who thrives when designing alongside creative coders and fellow designers.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Educational Requirements:

• A strong portfolio and relevant experience are preferred over formal academic qualifications in visual arts or design.
• 3–5 years of experience working in this field, particularly in collaboration with technical artists.

Location: Onsite (SF or NYC) or Remote (United States)

Role type: Contract 3 Month Position
