Summary
We are seeking a skilled Taxonomist to support the research, data analysis, design, and implementation of taxonomies for the AR/VR and Content Understanding teams. This role involves collaborating with other Taxonomists to enhance and implement taxonomy structures.
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed data analysis using tools like Excel, Google Sheets, or scripting languages to identify metadata trends and potential taxonomy quality issues.
- Perform research (both internal and external) to enrich node metadata.
- Proactively report progress, questions, issues, and potential opportunities to partners and stakeholders.
- Implement taxonomies based on established governance guidelines.
Minimum Requirements
- 2 years of experience developing taxonomies or ontologies to support various systems for both front-end and back-end use.
- Experience in creating taxonomies, thesauri, or ontologies.
- Proficient in researching and defining taxonomy and ontology node metadata based on existing standards.
- Experience working with diverse topics/domains.
- Ability to communicate and present taxonomy principles and standards effectively.
- Strong ownership and self-starting capabilities, with the ability to build relationships with partners and develop a strong point of view.
- Proactive communication skills regarding projects and workstreams.
- A keen eye for detail-oriented taxonomy development work.
- Excellent collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in developing taxonomies or ontologies.
- Master’s Degree in Library Science, Information Management, or Linguistics.
- Experience with taxonomy or ontology management software (Semaphore preferred but not required).
- Extensive experience with Excel or Google Sheets.
Location: Remote or Onsite (Bay Area, Seattle, or NYC)
Role type: Contract 12 Month Position
