The Infection Control / Staff Development Nurse will play a vital role in maintaining infection control practices and promoting the professional development of nursing staff. This position involves developing, implementing, and monitoring infection control protocols to prevent the spread of infectious diseases and ensuring compliance with health regulations. Additionally, this nurse will be responsible for providing ongoing education and training to staff on infection prevention, clinical practices, and nursing protocols.
Key Responsibilities :
Infection Control :
Develop and maintain infection prevention and control policies and procedures in compliance with regulatory standards.
Conduct surveillance of infection rates and identify potential outbreaks, taking immediate steps for containment.
Train staff on infection prevention protocols, hand hygiene, PPE usage, and isolation precautions.
Perform regular audits to assess compliance with infection control practices.
Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to implement strategies for infection prevention.
Staff Development and Training :
Design and implement a comprehensive training program to ensure nursing staff are educated on infection control, clinical skills, and new healthcare trends.
Provide in-service education and ongoing training related to regulatory requirements, patient care protocols, and safety practices.
Evaluate staff competencies and offer recommendations for continuing education and development.
Act as a mentor and resource for nursing staff, supporting their growth and professional development.
Compliance and Reporting :
Ensure all infection control activities are documented and reported to regulatory agencies as required.
Monitor and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations related to infection control.
Prepare and submit regular reports on infection control performance and staff development activities to management.
Experience :
At least 3 years of experience in a clinical nursing role, with a strong emphasis on infection control in a long-term care setting.
Previous experience in staff development or nursing education is highly desirable.
Skills & Abilities :
In-depth knowledge of infection control practices, including surveillance, prevention, and containment strategies.
Strong communication and teaching skills to effectively train and mentor staff.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Must Have :
- LVN / LPN with current licensure to practice in the state
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Basic knowledge of computer use or willingness to learn
- Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid state license
- LPN / LVN with a valid state license.
- Infection Control certification (CIC) preferred
- Staff development or nurse educator certification preferred.
