Job Title : Program Manager, Student Experience

Division : Student Affairs

Reports To : Director, Student Involvement and First Year Programs

Positions Supervised : Coordinator, Student Experience

Job Summary

The program manager of student experience provides leadership and coordination for first-year programs. The position delivers support, resources, and programming that promote student engagement, persistence, retention, and academic success, in order to facilitate a successful college transition for first-year students.

Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators

The intent of this job description is to provide a representation of the types of duties and level of responsibility that will be required of positions given this title. Job Responsibilities and Execution

  • Coordinates the implementation of the New Student Orientation (NSO) programs (i.e., summer, fall, and spring) through a collaborative process with campus stakeholders
  • Collaborates with the director and faculty director of First Year Seminar in the coordination of First Year Seminar classes through design and logistics
  • Serves as an instructor for a First Year Seminar course each semester
  • Advises First Year Council; serves as an Engage in Eight Committee Chair, overseeing and executing the planning and implementation of Engage in Eight events
  • Supports student experience coordinator with programming for first-generation students (e.g., LindenFirst, First-Gen collegians)
  • Manages programs and services promoting student persistence and success in order to improve undergraduate retention and graduation rates; supports director of student involvement and first year programs in preparing semester and annual reports on first-year student persistence
  • Collaborates with Institutional Research to gather and share freshman cohort data to appropriate campus constituents
  • Participates in the assessment process and recommends action for improvement based on data, student success, and student persistence
  • Hires, trains, supervises, evaluates, and mentors first-year programs' student staff including NSO program peer leaders
  • Participates in ongoing listservs and professional development to incorporate best practices in first year programming
  • Participates in campus-wide committees as related to first-year programs; leads working group to facilitate NSO
  • Utilizes the retention management system for student communication and early intervention for student caseload
  • Assists director in planning of Family Day
  • Service Excellence

  • Supports the mission of the University and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
  • Models, supports, and holds others accountable to the University's values
  • Contacts student success caseload as appropriate and needed; maintains availability for student success caseload
  • Responds and manages early alerts within the retention management system
  • Communication, Teamwork, and Collaboration

  • Collaborates with professional advising staff and the Admissions team regarding student intake, onboarding, and new student and / or advising events
  • Collaborates with campus partners to ensure activity alignment and student engagement appropriate to freshmen programming
  • Supervises the website and social media content for first-year student and new parent communication efforts
  • Maintains responsibility for articulating program recommendations, changes, barriers, and solutions to supervisor
  • Job may require other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.

  • Master's degree
  • Prior administrative experience in higher education
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working directly with first-year students
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - May be representative, but not all inclusive, of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform this job competently.
