Job Summary
Under the direction of the Recreation Superintendent, the Recreation Sports Coordinator is responsible for planning, marketing, implementing, coordinating, and supervising a variety of recreation programs. This includes managing sports programs, classes, volunteers, employees, summer camps, and special events for the community.
Work Hours
- 5 hours per day, 5 days a week, in the office.
- In addition to the regular duties and responsibilities of this position, it is expected that the selected candidate will assist in organizing and attending every city event hosted by Lindon Parks & Recreation.
Duties / Responsibilities
Plan, organized and implement recreation programs by coordinating a variety of after school programs, recreation classes / camps, and community events.Oversee activities at various locations (parks, schools, sports fields and other public facilities), including set up and take down for programs and special events.Prioritize task and meet deadlines for program execution.Assist in recruiting, training, supervising, and evaluating seasonal staff, instructors, volunteers and participants.Prepare reports upon program completion, evaluating outcomes and identifying improvements.Maintain supplies, equipment and materials for athletic and recreation programs; coordinate equipment and supply needs in advance.Perform necessary manual labor involving lifting heavy objects, stooping, bending and twisting, as required.Monitor day-to-day operations of recreation programs, including site visits, handling / resolving complaints, ensuring materials and supplies are available, organizing seasonal / year-round schedules.Enforces city policies, procedures and park rules for staff, instructors, volunteers and renters, including safety and operating procedures.Pursue professional development goals to support department objectives and contribute to the city's vision.Performs other duties as may be assigned.Required Skills / Abilities
Knowledge of the rules and regulations for a variety of sports and recreational activities.Familiarity with basic principles and practices of recreation and special event management.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Proficiency in computer skills; including internet-based programs and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher.)Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to respond to injuries in a timely, professional manner.Ability to handle multiple priorities for programs and facilities; maintaining courteous and professional service.Skill in planning, developing, implementing , and presenting information effectively.Capable of working independently and prioritize assignments.Strong supervisory, programming, and technology skills.Valid Utah driver's license required.Education / Experience
High School Diploma (College degree preferred)Two years of experience in recreation programming, physical education, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Physical Requirements
Frequent standing, sitting, talking, hearing, reading, and writing.Occasional walking or running.Periodic reaching, stooping, crouching, or kneeling.Ability to lift, carry, and / or move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.Hiring Policy
