About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Yard Jockey to operate a tractor, switch containers between the shipping dock and yard parking area, and monitor equipment to maintain operational standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough pre- and post-shift inspections on equipment to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Operate trailer refrigeration systems (reefer units) and monitor temperatures to maintain compliance with food safety regulations.
- Maintain fuel levels on attached gensets to prevent equipment downtime.
- Safely hook, unhook, and maneuver containers using exceptional backing and precision driving skills.
- Perform physically demanding tasks, such as replacing wheel chocks, opening container doors, and adjusting container positions.
- Enter and exit the yard tractor safely multiple times per shift while maintaining a high level of situational awareness.
- Apply security seals, pin locks, and glad hand locks to ensure container safety and prevent unauthorized access.
- Communicate effectively with the shipping and receiving departments to coordinate container movements and resolve any issues that may arise.
- Complete regular yard checks and maintain accurate records, including temperature and fuel checks, to ensure optimal equipment performance.
- Keep switching equipment clean, organized, and in optimal working condition to prevent maintenance issues.
