What are the responsibilities and job description for the SMT Machine Operator position at Linear Manufacturing?
The Surface Mount Pick and Place Machine Technician is responsible for creating, maintaining, and improving the surface mount processes and programs for various production lines. These processes include screen print, chip mount, and reflow as well as AOI/SPV processes. A core focus of this role is leading efforts to reduce defects created during the SMT process and improve efficiency. The optimal candidate will have experience with SMT equipment, a willingness and ability to learn, great attention to detail, and a drive for continuous improvement.
We work with the cross-functional teams (Design, Quality, Production, Sustaining, and Supply Chain) throughout the entire lifecycle of a product (from initial design through prototype development and into full production) to develop high quality and efficient manufacturing equipment and processes. The role of the SMT Manufacturing Technician is to support the PCBA team in producing world-class electronics boards. Duties
- Generate new programs for SMT screen printers and support changeovers
- Improvement of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) related processes
- Identify and improve product quality, process capability and product reliability
- Monitor the SMT process and necessary controls working with production, quality assurance, supervision and others
- Use statistical process control and provide direct, hands-on support of SMT manufacturing processes
- Review design documentation, materials and designs for manufacturability
- Provide pre and post manufacturing reviews and finalize process issues
- Drive to reach zero defects by continually improving processes
- Stencil design for complex circuit boards
- Generate automated optical inspection (AOI) programs and debug existing libraries to improve component inspection accuracy and reduce false fails.
- Program solder paste inspection (SPI) machines
- Program, debug, maintain and troubleshoot SMT pick and placement equipment
- Maintain a good working knowledge of IPC-A-610 and JEDEC J-STD-001 workmanship standards
- Good understanding of SMD and PTH component values, able to read BOM and drawings
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent on the job experience
- Prior SMT experience
- Great attention to detail
- Strong communication skills
- Proficient with computers and MS Suite
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Experience using data to drive continuous improvement
- Experience maintaining and programming solder paste application, pick and place, and reflow.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.50 - $22.00 per hour
