Position Summary :
The Principal Product Engineer will lead new product initiatives, current product enhancements, and customer technical communications, in collaboration with adjacent UmbraGroup departments.
This position is located in our Saginaw, Michigan facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Lead the development, analysis, testing and implementation of breakthrough ball screw and actuation technologies
- Lead technical communication with customers and internal stakeholders
- Generate detailed CAD models and product drawings considering DFM / DFA
- Perform engineering analysis to ensure designs will meet customer requirements
- Design, conduct, and analyze laboratory testing of new products
- Work with design and process teams to identify, investigate and implement state of the art materials, design improvements and manufacturing processes
- Support the continuous improvement of products by incorporating feedback from testing, field performance, and operations
- Collaborate with our Foligno Italy facility to share and implement best practices
- Advance UmbraGroup's use of analytical tools and testing methods
- Prepare and deliver technical proposals, seminars and papers to industry as a "technical expert" in the field of ball screws and motion systems
- Mentor and train colleagues

Work Environment :
The physical surroundings for this position are inside a factory and product manufacturing environment with work split between the offices and shop areas at all the UMBRAGROUP facilities and at customer and / or vendor locations worldwide. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise levels are moderate to loud.
