Description

Assistant Professor of Biology Linfield University

The Biology Department of Linfield University is searching for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology with a Ph.D. in Biochemistry or a closely related field, to begin July 1, 2025. We are seeking a dynamic, experienced instructor to contribute to courses within the Biology department. A typical load consists of two lecture classes and associated labs per semester. Annually, this will include Biochemistry for biology and biochemistry majors and one semester of Introductory Biology for biology and health sciences-related majors. The remaining load would be comprised of some combination of the following: either Molecular Cell Biology or Genetics (applicant's choice); a majors elective course with laboratory in the candidate's area of expertise; a non-majors course (no laboratory) in the candidate's area of expertise. Opportunities exist for the new hire to contribute to interdisciplinary, cross-campus programs such as neuroscience, environmental studies, first-year writing seminar, and January study abroad, among others as a part of their load.

The successful applicant will demonstrate a commitment to, and the potential for, developing a productive research program with undergraduates. We are open to any research program that expands the research expertise and opportunities in our department in any system, ranging in focus from biomolecules to whole organisms. A Ph.D. in biology or a related field is required; post-doctoral experience is preferred.

Educators at Linfield University are dedicated to teaching in a liberal arts environment, and the Biology Department is collegial and dynamic. Linfield University is actively engaged in promoting, advancing, and affirming our commitment to diversity and inclusion. A diverse and vibrant Linfield community contributes to academic excellence and critical thinking. Thus, we welcome applicants who bring a diversity of identity, culture, experience, perspective, and thought. All candidates should address in their application how their professional and lived experience, scholarship, teaching, mentorship, and/or service will build on our diversity and inclusion efforts. A moving stipend is available.

To apply, complete the online application process. Be prepared to upload in one PDF the following documents in this order:

  1. A cover letter;
  2. A curriculum vitae;
  3. A description of the Biochemistry course the candidate would like to teach, including how that course reflects the candidate's teaching philosophy;
  4. A list of three majors or non-majors elective courses the candidate would be excited to teach;
  5. A research plan specific to this position;
  6. Graduate and undergraduate transcripts (unofficial are sufficient at this time); and
  7. Three letters of recommendation (send to hr@linfield.edu)

The review of applications will begin on October 16, 2024, and will continue until the position is filled with a preference for campus interviews between November 11 to November 22.
