The Simulation Operations Specialist is a key member of the Experiential Learning Center (ELC) team. Reporting directly to the ELC Manager, the specialist will collaborate with Simulation Faculty and other ELC staff to organize, develop, and implement simulation learning strategies.
Administration
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the ELC Manager to determine budgetary priorities for simulation equipment.
- Maintain and coordinate the schedule of simulation experiences.
- Manage inventory and ensure the maintenance of ELC supplies and materials.
- Develop and maintain databases tracking simulation scenarios, setup requirements, costs, and presentation records.
- Supervise and coordinate student work-study assistants in collaboration with the ELC Lab Coordinator and Manager.
- Collaborate with the Director of Simulation, Simulation Faculty, and ELC Manager to create simulation environments.
- Prepare simulations, adjusting equipment, props, and environmental variables.
- Coordinate training for actors and simulation users in the control room.
- Operate audiovisual equipment during scenarios and debriefings.
- Assist with rapid changeovers between simulations.
- Participate in debriefings and offer technical support as needed.
- Distribute simulation-related course materials to students and faculty.
- Assist with planning technology upgrades in coordination with ELC leadership and faculty.
- Install and maintain simulation equipment and troubleshoot issues.
- Manage videotaping and playback of simulations.
- Produce and edit videos for program development and marketing purposes.
- Assist in grant writing for simulation teaching initiatives.
- Develop simulation lab marketing materials in collaboration with university marketing teams.
- Participate in recruitment events and present at regional and national conferences.
- Contribute to local and regional simulation roundtable meetings.
- Create training plans for faculty and staff on simulation equipment, software, and scenario implementation.
- Assist with the implementation of simulation evaluations.
- Participate in post-simulation debriefings.
- Collaborate with the ELC Manager in data-gathering and research for improving ELC practices.
- Maintain MDS sheets for hazardous chemicals.
- Manage the distribution and return of equipment loaned to students and faculty.
Education:
- BA or BS degree (preferably in Computer Technology, Media, Simulation, Education, or a health-related discipline).
- CHSOS or CHSE certification is strongly preferred.
- Extensive experience in computer technology and troubleshooting.
- Minimum one year of leadership experience in educational technology development and implementation, preferably in healthcare simulation.
- Proficiency in operating both Windows and Macintosh platforms.
- Advanced knowledge of audiovisual equipment installation, use, and troubleshooting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office and simulation data management systems.
- Ability to be proficient as an equipment super-user within six months.
- Familiarity with medical equipment, supplies, and terminology.
- Experience in healthcare simulation.
- Proficiency in video production, presentation, and database applications.
- Work is performed in a sedentary office environment.
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Frequent repetitive motion of wrists, hands, and fingers, walking, climbing stairs, and standing.
