JOB DESCRIPTION
The Scientist will play an essential role in evaluating water treatment processes and alternatives, assisting with bench and pilot testing to support design criteria development. This position involves contributing to detailed design drawings and specifications while being able to work collaboratively with a team and independently during field assignments.
Essential duties include:
· Collect, preserve, and transport samples for analysis, following appropriate sampling techniques and procedures.
· Collaborate with analytical laboratories to ensure samples are analyzed accurately and promptly.
· Conduct laboratory analyses on water samples according to established protocols.
· Calibrate, operate, and maintain sampling and laboratory equipment accurately.
· Help create standard operating procedures for water sampling and analysis.
· Evaluate water quality data and environmental discharge requirements.
· Assist in the design and execution of pilot testing protocols.
· Support data collection efforts for determining treatment needs.
· Maintain essential supplies for sampling, including bottles, labels, and preservatives.
· Help monitor client water quality, usage, and regulatory compliance.
· Provide support on client permits to ensure our work meets regulatory standards.
· Participate in periodic QA/QC audits to uphold environmentally protective practices.
· Assist with laboratory QA/QC plans and their implementation.
· Respond safely to potentially non-compliant conditions.
· Support site visits, including data collection and sampling.
· Conduct groundwater sampling using various equipment and methodologies, including bailers and pumps.
· Assist with reporting, environmental inspections, and general laboratory tasks as needed.
· Assist with tasks and projects of moderate complexity.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Specific skills and experience are as follows:
- Candidates should possess the following skills and experience:
- Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry; advanced degrees preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in the mining industry.
- Knowledge of inorganic chemistry relevant to the mining sector.
- Familiarity with water treatment processes, including membranes, ion exchange, adsorption, and chemical precipitation.
- Background in chemistry and/or environmental regulations.
- Understanding of environmental sampling protocols and analytical methodologies preferred.
- Laboratory QA/QC experience is required.
- Water quality sampling experience is recommended.
- Ability to analyze and document work products comprehensively and timely.
- Capacity to meet deadlines and manage priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat.
