Role Overview:
The Senior Estimator will play a pivotal role in providing comprehensive estimating services for diverse market sectors and contract delivery methods. The goal is to create accurate, strategic estimates that drive project success while ensuring profitability. This role emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and effective leadership in both traditional and integrated project delivery environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review drawings, specifications, and project documents to define scope and deliverables, attending pre-bid and project meetings as necessary.
- Prepare RFIs and collaborate with design teams to clarify document interpretations.
- Develop detailed and conceptual estimates, including scopes for self-performed trades such as concrete, masonry, steel, carpentry, drywall, and millwright work. Utilize estimating tools like OnCenter and BIM platforms (e.g., Vico) as needed.
- Coordinate the bid process, including solicitation, communication with bidders, evaluation of proposals, and bid award recommendations.
- Present estimates to project owners and stakeholders, leading internal and external meetings when required.
- Analyze design options to recommend cost-effective, high-quality solutions while factoring in material availability.
- Oversee all aspects of estimating, from initial reporting formats to project buyout and smooth handoff to project management.
- Manage risk assessments and provide insights on cost impacts, collaborating with project and financial managers to integrate risks and opportunities into overall project costs.
- Guide and mentor less experienced estimators, fostering skill development and team growth.
- Maintain proficiency in labor rates, self-perform productivity, and crew mix analysis using labor rate tools.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent technical training and/or relevant experience may be considered.
- 5–8 years of experience in construction estimating, including conceptual estimating and Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) projects.
- In-depth knowledge of estimating processes, building systems, construction codes, and bid strategies.
- Proficiency in software tools such as WinEst, OnCenter, Microsoft Project, and Primavera; familiarity with BIM tools like REVIT or Vico is preferred.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to collaborate in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
Working Conditions:
This position primarily functions in an office environment with standard office equipment usage. Occasional movement of up to 15 pounds may be required. The role involves frequent use of a computer and the ability to communicate effectively.
