POSITION SUMMARY |
Teach students in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade middle school orchestra at Linkhorne Middle School. Provide instruction in violin, viola, cello, and bass with some students on the beginning level.
|
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS |
- Instruct all students on their instruments at their level and to ensure each student’s progress by as much individualization as possible
- Use excellent classroom management
- Select appropriate repertoire to advance the technique and ensemble skills of each orchestra
- Ability to teach beginning violin, viola, cello and bass
- Assist in organizing and maintaining division-owned instruments.
- Differentiate instruction to meet varying needs and ability levels of all students.
- Participate in all city-wide string events involving middle school and provide performance opportunities within the school and community.
- Participate in all Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association (VABODA) district and regional events.
- Fulfills all responsibilities of paperwork such as inventory, purchase orders, instrument check-out forms, report cards, attendance, music, and rosters
- Use available technology when appropriate.
- Communicate promptly and effectively with students, parents, school staff, and administration.
- Be a contributing member of the LCS Strings Professional Learning Community.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE |
- Bachelors/Masters Degree in music or music education with an emphasis in instrumental music.
- Possess or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in instrumental music, Prek-12.
- Experience teaching middle school orchestra and teaching beginner techniques in all string instruments is preferred.
