Description

The Network Security Specialist will oversee the assessment and enhancement of network security, focusing on protecting James Madison University's wireless networks, database systems, and active directory infrastructure. This role aligns with AMS's mission by ensuring adequate internal control over information security activities and safeguarding university data. The specialist may also act as a consultant for special IT projects and provide technical recommendations.

Major responsibilities include (and not limited to)

• Perform wireless network assessments to identify and remediate security risks.
• Evaluate database security and implement necessary safeguards.
• Conduct active directory security audits and enforce best practices.
• Collaborate with IT teams to design and secure network architecture.
• Assess firewall and router security, as well as network scanning processes.
• Ensure contractor services meet data security standards and backup / disaster recovery plans.
• Document findings and provide recommendations to enhance network security.
• Support JMU IT staff with troubleshooting and implementation tasks.
