What are the responsibilities and job description for the Weight Room Monitor WS, Student position at Linn-Benton Community College?
Monitors the Activities Center Weight Room facility during designated open drop-in hours to ensure a safe, clean, and friendly environment for campus use by completing daily, weekly, and monthly task lists.
Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Must maintain enrollment in at least 6 credits at LBCC, maintain satisfactory academic progress throughout each term, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better and have financial aid in place to be eligible to work in a Work Study student employee capacity at Linn-Benton Community College.
Licenses and Certificates:
- Requires First Aid/CPR Certification or the ability to obtain certification within three weeks of employment.
- Must complete bloodborne pathogen training within ten days of employment.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Requires generalized knowledge of athletics and sports, and occupational safety.
- Requires good planning, organizational, and customer relations skills.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
Abilities:
- Requires the ability to perform all of the duties efficiently and effectively independently.
- Must be able to communicate clearly with diverse populations.
- Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.
Physical Skills and Abilities:
- This position may require occasional lifting of objects up to 50 lbs.
- Requires good arm, hand, and finger dexterity to operate sports equipment.
- Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers.
- Requires speaking and hearing sufficient to hear over the telephone and carry out routine conversations.
Working Conditions:
- Work performed indoors with little or no exposure to safety and health hazards.
- Work performed in a high traffic physical education facility, which can be noisy at times.
- Extensive time spent in close contact with people, some of whom have disabilities and some of whom are easily distressed or agitated.
- Performs daily tasks to ensure the weight room facility is clean, organized, and safe for use.
- Greets and welcomes people to ensure users know and understand the Weight Room Monitor is available to answer and assist with general questions.
- Monitors activity in the weight room to ensure users are respectful and mindful of posted facility use policies and procedures.
- Responds to incidents or injury, administers first aid if needed, notifies and reports incidents to Athletics Director and Public Safety.
- Reports any maintenance or safety issues or concerns to the Activities Center administrative office.
- Responsible for controlling and monitoring music played through the weight room sound system; responds to requests, if necessary, to change music station(s).
- Completes task list and shift report log for all shifts worked.
- Restores the weight room to clean and ready state before ending each shift.
- Assists with any special weight room projects (cleaning, moving equipment, etc.) as needed.
- Ensures staff and students are signing in on the computer and sign the liability waiver form.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
