PUBLIC HEALTH LACTATION CONSULTANT
Public Health Program (Classification 744)
SEIU Represented Full Time (37.5 hours/week) positionAdministration of the breastfeeding peer counseling program. Responsible for planning, implementation and evaluation of the local WIC agency peer counseling activities. Oversees the training, evaluating and mentoring of peer counselors. Provide breastfeeding support and education to clients and staff served by the Linn County Department of Health services, Public Health Program and other health care providers in Linn County.
Must possess considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of lactation in order to facilitate professional education to staff, patients, and families. Ability to listen, empathize and respond to patient, family, internal and external partner’s needs, and the ability to work independently within the defined guidelines of the job classification.Graduation from a senior high school required. Graduation from an approved school of nursing or a baccalaureate degree from accredited college or University in Health, Nutrition, Nursing or related field of study preferred. Certified as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is required. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license and an acceptable driving record at the time of appointment is required.
This is a non-supervisory position. Lead work/coordination of work of others is not a typical function assigned to this position. Incumbents in this position will provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel.
